Guest guest
- I am glad that you found your visit with Dr. H to be positive, what we always want! Re the 1,000 calories -- I was re-reading my notes from when was young. At 2 years of age, she was still drinking more than 32+ ounces of milk (and that was when they introduced vanilla pediasure into her diet -- she drank half milk and half pediasure). So that 16 ounces of milk and 16 ounces of Pediasure represented 740 calories alone!!!! 8 ounces of Pediasure is I think 240 calories, and 8 ounces of milk is 130 calories (well, 2%milk is that much). So clearly it wasn't hard to get another 250+ calories into her. One yogurt, some refried beans and rice, pasta with butter, rice cereal and fruit in the mornings, a banana, goldfish crackers, etc. Milk and formula are a HUGE source of easy calories for kids. Remember the milkshake trick. SMALL size is important so our kids aren't overwhelmed. Take Pediasure or Peptamen Jr. about 3 oz, mix in high calorie ice cream, add 1/3 envelope of Carnation Instant Breakfast, little bit of milk or half and half, and some flavoring -- chocolate syrup or fruit of some kind -- and you have a small, delicious treat for your child that is roughly 300 calories. Put it in some fun cup maybe with a straw??? Make it a treat each afternoon, and it is easy.
