Can help with a couple of these questions:

> 1. With milk, soy, and corn being a problem what do you use

for butter/marg?

I like coconut oil.

> 4. Does anyone know if the Claritin Reditabs are GFCF? If

not, does anyone know where I can find out?

Yes, gfcf, but I don't know about corn & soy. Ask the pharmacist

or call the company.

> 9. Is there something that I can give her following GFCF

exposure to help with reaction?

>

Our favorite is pepcidAC - it's a miracle for my son. BUT it

contains corn starch. Some listmates prefer alkaseltzer gold; others

prefer EnzymAid, serenaid, or other digestive enzymes. Those have

helped my child a little, but not like pepcid ac.

Hi everyone:

I am new to this group (about two weeks), and I have already picked up several

useful tips/ideas about the GF/CF diet, and would like to say " thanks " . But it

seems no matter how much I learn about this diet there is always another layer

that has be decoded and memorized. Quite frankly, my brain feels as if it is on

overload and spinning out of control.

My daughter has been CF since the end of Sept. 2000 and GF since Oct., I

discovered in Jan, 2001, that Soy is also a problem. We are now working on

taking out corn and eggs (oh, what fun we are having). She is also off all

food dyes, nitrates and sulfates (Spell?).. and finally here are my questions:

1. With milk, soy, and corn being a problem what do you use for

butter/marg?

I have heard of Ghee and purchased a jar --but I think this may be a problem --I

will have to test it again to make sure, but if it is a problem are there other

alternatives?

2. I would also like to know what the conversion rate is with Ghee in case

I can use it.

3. I use Ener G's egg replacer -- I think I read somewhere that one of

the ingred. is derived from Soy. Does anyone know this for sure -- if so, what

ingred. is it? I called Ener G to confirm one way or another and they were

unaware of the possible soy connection.

4. Does anyone know if the Claritin Reditabs are GFCF? If not, does anyone

know where I can find out?

5. Has anyone had better results using Brainchild over SNT? I would like

to hear good or bad comments.

6. I would also like to hear any comments on DMG over TMG --good or bad and

any side effects you may have seen.

7. Has anyone on this list tried DMAE -- good - bad - side effects?

8. Can too much Folic Acid make a child hyper -- I know it is suppose to

help with hyperness, but can too much do the opposite? (I am currently giving

her 1600 mg per day).

9. Is there something that I can give her following GFCF exposure to help

with reaction?

I apologize for the long list at one time, but like I said " brain overload " .

Thanks for any help!

Glenda

Ghee is supposed to be okay as it is 99.7 (?) fat with the remainder being

water, at least according to the gfcfdiet.com site.

For GFCF exposure, Enzymaid from www.kirkmanlabs.com is an excellent

product.

Hang in there Glenda!

You already got some great responses. Here are some ideas on your needs:

1) I use Ghee sparingly and use ¾ of what the recipe calls for in

shortening. I also cook with safflower oil, canola oil, olive oil and

coconut oil - use ¾ of what the recipe calls for shortening.

2) See above

3) EnerG egg replacement has corn it and this is why we no longer use

it.

4) Not sure

5) SNT did not work for us. Have not tried Brainchild

6) TMG w/ Folic Acid works well for us (hypoallergenic versions.)

7) Nope

8) TMG w/ Folic acid does not make our son hyper. Try calling Kirkman

Labs about proper dosage with your specific supplement combos. They have

been invaluable to me in getting the right mix and dosing right.

9) I have just rode out a diet infraction. Some give Enzymaid

(Kirkmans), Pepcid AC or AlkasetzerGold. We just hang tight til it is over

- about 3 days later.

Cheers,

A Jeffs mom
