HELP- Pressure sore???

Hi there,

I am wondering if my son is beginning to get a pressure sore. It is

on his cf, looks like a bruise. I am thinking it might actually be

a bruise... Sunday morning when I got him up, I saw that he had

kicked out of his shoes on his non-cf foot. This is the first time

he has done this. I put that foot back in the shoes but did not

adjust the cf foot. That night at bath time I noticed his foot was

a little purple and then last night noticed it looked bruised. Has

anyone seen bruising? What would be the first signs of a pressure

sore? It does not bother him when I push on it (it bothers me

though!). Please help. Thank you. Lori

Lori,

Is this a bruise on his heel? Is it dark purple? If so, it probably

is a pressure sore. If his whole foot is looking bruised that could

be just that his shoes were too tight, or just the circulation

returning more vigorously to his foot. Sometimes Sammy's foot gets

reddish/purplish shortly after he's had his brace off and we've

decided it is just the circulation.

Lori,

Sorry to take so long to get back to you, I hardly ever find time to

get online at home...only at work when I should really be doing work!

Is it covering most of the side of his foot? It is not dark purple

like almost black right? Sounds like just a regular bruise, could be

from when he kicked the other foot out, could be shoes were extra

tight, or just maybe bumped on something. If it is not hurting him I

think I would not worry, especially if it starts to go away as a

normal bruise would. If it stays and you are really still bothered by

it I would just check w/ your Ortho at your next visit. Hope this helps.

Thanks,
