Guest guest
Hi, RK, You have a few options of doctors in India using the Ponseti method, have you tried contacting them about getting a longer bar? Here is the link to Dr. P's site that lists the doctors: http://www.vh.org/pediatric/patient/orthopaedics/clubfeet/physicians. html As a last resort, can you find a metalworker who could cut the bar and weld in a short piece to make it longer? The distance between the inside edges of the heels of the shoes should be equal to the width of his shoulders. I think you have some time to get him a replacement bar if he's not uncomfortable with the brace right now. With the bar being too short, you run the risk of him being uncomfortable and/or being able to pull his feet out of the shoes, but it's not an extreme emergency where you don't have a few days to seek out a replacement if he's still tolerating it as it currently is. I hope this helps! Regards, > > > Hi All, > > My son has outgrown his DBB. His shoulders are 7 1/2 " while the DBB > is 7 " . Guest guest
Hi, (Look at my other posting about the extra DBB bars I have.) I don't know how long it is ok for your son to be in the DBB if it is too short. It seems like 1/2 inch is such a small amount, but you can't be too careful. If he becomes uncomfortable in the DBB he will become distressed and not want to wear it. I'm afraid if the length of the bar, between his heels, is not equal to the width of his shoulders, it may start to put some pressure on his knees. I suggest you contact Dr. Ponseti's office to ask their advice. In the meantime, I have a suggestion if you cannot get a longer DBB bar soon enough. I'm guessing from what you said about the length of the bar that the DBB your son now has is the one-piece bar. But if it is the the two-piece bar with the sliding clamps, you can simply get a metal- works shop to make you a new small section of narrow flat bar (polished edges!) to place in-between the two segments of the original bar. Our son was also in danger of outgrowing his adjustable DBB, and as we live in Greece and have no access to such things here, Dr. Ponseti's office had provided us with a small bar to add to the center as I described. That bar is 36 cm long and is exactly the same as the original brace bar, except that it is unbent. Perhaps you can get something like that to use until you can get the new DBB. Good luck! P.
