A question about Periactin and mood

I have a question for those of you who have experience with Periactin.

I know that several of you have mentioned that when your children

started taking Periactin you noticed a change in their mood, e.g.

increased irritibility and shortness of temper. Does this always go

away? And did you think it subsided completely, did your child stay

somewhat more irritable while on Periactin?

TIA

Good question. From the gosh, 100+ families that I have talked with

whose kids have been on Periactin, I would say 98% have no problems

after the 2-3 day adjustment to each new dosage (remember that as

the child gains weight, the dose goes up).

Of the handful that have irritability or hyper or lethargic problems

(yes, opposite problems) some people quit the med.

For our own daughter, we did quit for a year, and learned

(painfully) the lack of weight gain that resulted.

So..... our daughter is on her FULL dinner dose (which doesn't seem

to bother her because she goes to bed later) and only on about 75%

of her breakfast dose. We have to move it up so slowly because she

really gets cranky (I think it comes from the fatigue that comes

from most antihistamines). However, even on this 75% breakfast

dose, she is still gaining weight FAR more than zero at all.
