Guest guest
Hi , A brief PubMed search yielded pages of references linking parathyroid dysfunction with mitochondrial disease. Soem of the more specific references are listed below. I suspect mitochondrial disease can affect ANY facet of the endocrine system. We are seeing abnormalities in at least four of lies' recent labs and, by signs/sy,mptoms, I suspect is starting to exhibit similat endocrine issues. If so, do you know the cause and do you believe it has any correlation to mitochodrial disease? I'm having my PTH level checked today. A friend of my mom's actually reccomended it as she was found to have a parathyroid prob and it was missed for a long time. She and I have alot of the same symptoms including kidney stones and osteoporosis.
Guest guest
I had a weird parathyroid problem. It was over-active which usually causes a loss of calcium and can lead to osteoporosis. My bone density if better than it should be for somone my age. After about a year, the values were normal and nobody could figure out what was going on. I'm thinking I should probably have my PTH checked again. Sorry I don't have anything that makes sense. I hope you get some answers. laurie > Just curious if anyone has problems associated with their Parathyroid? Guest guest
Joanne Thanks for all the sources. I will look them up and see if my previous problem is discussed. laurie > Hi , > > A brief PubMed search yielded pages of references linking parathyroid > dysfunction with mitochondrial disease. Guest guest
--- I too have a possible Parathyroid problem. I have had all of the symptoms. When my phosphates were high and calcium low my Dr orderd a parathyroid test along with other tests. The lab tech missed the test. I have been taking calcium supplements and my symptoms have subsided. My Dr told me that the test would now be normal with my calcium being normal. I guess only time will tell if I have low PTH. I am just going to continue taking my calcium. Dawn ANich In , LILQT4U1984@a... wrote: > > Thanks so much! Guest guest
HI , Yes, my Parathyroid level is High. We haven't figured out why yet. My MDA Neuro doesn't seem to be concerned about it but Dr. Korson is. I heard that it is related to Mitochondrial disease, and I think it is too. I am suppose to see an endo. doctor, but things have been so busy for me that I put it on the back burner. Thanks for the reminder, I will work on that now.!! Hugs, Ann-Marie Parathyroid Just curious if anyone has problems associated with their Parathyroid? If so, do you know the cause and do you believe it has any correlation to mitochodrial disease? Guest guest
I don't, but I do know that Vitamin K is recommended for MELAS, and it works with the calcium regulation system, protecting against osteoporosis and calcium deposition in the arteries. Vitamin K is a prescription drug for osteoporosis in Japan I understand... Take care, RH > > Just curious if anyone has problems associated with their Parathyroid?
