Guest guest
Sherry.. where in Florida? I am in Ft Lauderdale... Dr Liem did my surgery 12/2/03 in West Palm Beach. As for the PG books... chuck 'em. Seriously.. they will drive you nuts and create paranoia.. Seeing that you are at an " average " weight.. I would assume you will gain the " average " amount.. give or take a few lbs. You will gain water weight...and as your blood volume about doubles... As for 'fat'... I would just concentrate on getting enough calories for you and the baby... and be sure that you are not being malnourished. Typically... a pg women carrying 1 child only needs 300 more calories a day... 500 for the very active pg women. If you have a tiny pouch.. and depending on your surgery and your absorption issues... you may want to double that. My Dr says I need 2000 calories a day... hoping that I absorb 1000-1500 calories a day. That being said.. I am losing 1.8 lbs a week on average... (only 6 months out) I usually get in 1500-1800 cals a day... depending on my food choices.. I really like salads and veges.. and they don't add up to alot of calories... even when I add some cheese. Keep up on the water.. the vits and your supplements... and I wouldn't worry too much about the weight gain. (easier said then done when we rearrange our insides in order to lose weight)
Guest guest
Hi Sherry. Hmmm, how about working with a weight loss surgery nutritionist? She/he could also advise you about supplements, etc. If you want to hear a personal anecdote, I'm approaching 2 1/2 years post op, got down to a 'normal' BMI, & now @ 11 weeks pg have not gained an ounce. Too bizarre, since I'm eating like a fiend. Maybe it's the exercise? I learned that nausea stays away if I don't get too hungry, but of course grazing is a dangerous post op habit, but my baby's 1st. After breastfeeding, I'll worry about the scale, um, & the excess skin, lol. Congrats, mom.
