Guest guest
Welcome to our group, na! Congrats on your pending arrival! I'm also due mid-April with a little girl, but unlike her big sister, this little one is supposed to have straight tootsies! Unfortunately, Tennessee is one of the states that does not have any listings for physicians who are qualified in the Ponseti method. It doesn't mean that there *aren't* any in your area, just that none of them have submitted the necessary paperwork to the University of Iowa to be listed on Dr. Ponseti's website. Here is a link to the site: http://www.vh.org/pediatric/patient/orthopaedics/clubfeet/physicians. html Many of us on this board (myself included) have traveled out of state in order to seek out a physician who is well-experienced in the method. You may be able to find a doctor near you who is using the Ponseti method, but you should probably research your nearest out-of-state doctors in case you cannot find a competent physician near you. There are organizations such as Angel Flights that will fly you and your baby for free to seek medical treatment outside of your area. If you look at www.posna.org, there is a listing of pediatric orthopaedic surgeons who belong to that organization. There is a parents' checklist at this site: http://pages.ivillage.com/ponseti_links that will help you in interviewing doctors (and also doing research on the method and what it entails). This website will be moving in the next few weeks as ivillage will be moving the sites to Tripod, so please print off any information that you want to have handy as it might be off-line for a few days in the beginnning of March. If you have any specific questions, please ask. Hopefully there will be some families in your area who will see your post and be able to tell you what they did for treatment. Keep us posted! Guest guest
Welcome to the group! I just wanted to add to what said, I think it is important if you are looking for a Dr. who is practicing the Ponseti method but is not on the certified list that you ask a lot of questions -- the checklist she referenced on ivillage is quite helpful. This is important because there are a lot of docs who *say* they are practicing the Ponseti method but are not really following the protocol. > > > > > > I am new to all of this ! i'm due mid april and have been told > that my > > little girls feet are both clubbed. Guest guest
Hi na, I'm also new to all of his and expecting in mid May. My ultrasound photo proved that my child will be born with a right clubfoot. As I have been told before, you're very lucky to have found out so soon. I think when you're prepared things will sail a little more smoothly. But it will never stop the concerns about the whole situation. To find a doctor certified to peform the Ponseti method (my choice of the best treatment ever) all you have to do is go to Dr. Ignacio Ponseti's official site and below the picture of the baby's legs will be links but you should click on " Qualified physicians in the method " Choose your state and what you're looking for should be on the monitor. Good Luck! P.S. A quicker way to get to his site is to go through " s clubfoot website " While you're there you should check out her story also. It's also very informative.
