I highly recomend the Nuva Ring...its this little plastic ring you insert in the vagina for three weeks of the month, it releases hormones...we've been using it for a year with no problems and i love it because i only have to think about it once a month Christie here is there website _NuvaRing®: Once-A-Month Birth Control for Women_ (http://www.nuvaring.com/Consumer/index.asp?SetSession=Yes&strGUID={4FDF9BF9-36C\ B-4737-8082-00A7CB07AF22} &SID=973001080)
Guest guest
About the pill i know several people who have gotten pregnant on the pill...and they never had the gastric bypass. So a pill that is slightly unreliable in the average woman, i would think would be as if not more unreliable in GB RNY patients I was put on the pill in late august of 2002( my husband and I wanted to wait until my 1yr post op mark to even try) well I got pregnant in late Oct. I suggest the shot or the patch maybe. Good luck to you > Hello! I'm new to the group. I also have not seen or heard of any studies that have shown malabsorption for birth control pills because of our surgery. My surgeon and OBGYN doctor both recommended the pill for me, and I was able to wait until I was two years post-op to conceive. When used correctly, only 3 out of 1000 women will get pregnant when using birth control pills. My advice would be to take the advice of your Doctor instead of just listening to what other people say! http://my.webmd.com/hw/health_guide_atoz/tw9416.asp?navbar=hw237867 http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/1997/babyguide.pdf Best wishes on your upcoming surgery! Guest guest
Hello Lindsey! My WLSurgeons group say to be on 2 forms of Birth Control for the first 2 years to prevent pregnancy. I thought that meant that once the 2 years was up that the malabsorbation would no longer be an issue and that just the pill would be fine after my secound year so thats all I use.. Mircette What I was on.. Which is supposed to be once of the most effect Birth Control pill out there. Well I got pregnant on it and all of my doctors believe that is was because of malabsortion. That being said....If your WLSurgeon is saying BC Pill is fine well I personally would listen to him the reason being is I really believe these doctors do these surgeries differently.. Heck Ask him how many gals he has done surgery on and they have gotten pregnant with on BC Pill with in the first year.. Maybe mine bypasses a lot more of the intestines then yours so malabsorbation was an issue for me but will never be a problem for you. If you trust your doctor I think you will know he has your best interest in mind. Just my opinion, Noni RYN May 17th 01 EDD June 14th
Guest guest
I was on birth control religiously the first year after surgery. Only after I went off bcp's did I get pregnant -- the first cycle afterwards. The thing about Birth Control is that you really need to decide what you believe is best for you. Discuss this with your surgeon and your ob and even your PCP. Find out what they would suggest and gather as much information as you can. Knowing what every woman on here used at one point is not going to help you much in deciding what YOU should use.
