I don't know how much of all this is the shots versus developmental

versus something else. However, I know from when I used to be on

the Growth hormone listserve, that many of the kids seem to follow a

pretty typical pattern.

First week or so (sometimes days) on GH: not so bad, new,

interesting

Next couple of weeks: hey, new and interesting has worn off and

WHAT, I have to do this every day. Forget it!!! Maybe if I scream

and carry on and kick Mom and Dad will give up.....

Finally: OK, I guess Mom and Dad aren't giving up, and boy, it

takes a lot of time and energy to cause such a fuss. Hmmm, that

shot wasn't so bad after all. Guess it's just one more thing I got

to do....

Now, when you are stuck in the second section, I have heard some

great tips on reward systems. The best is that they get 2

stars/stickers for taking their shot and NOT crying, and 1

star/sticker for taking their shot even if they cry (this rewards

them no matter what). Ideally, the " treat " should be earned within

let's say 5 stars/stickers -- not too far off but not after a single

time.

Then after a week or so, you can stretch out how many stars/stickers

are needed for the treat, and then finally, you phase it all out.

Good luck!!!
