Guest guest
When I go to the messages page on the website and enter a specific message number I want to re-read, I get the following error: PythonError: This has been happening for a few days now, on and off. (I can, however, still click on 'previous' or 'next' to move through the messages, or click on a particular month, but that can take a long time to get to where you want to go.) I can't figure out how to report the problem to Yahoo - hopefully a moderator can help? Has anyone else had this happen? Cindy
Guest guest
Cindy I tried the same thing at other groups I'm on, and got the same results. Python is a programming language. It's clear to me (I'm a programmer of many stripes) that Yahoo has implemented their entire Groups software with Python, and now has a system-wide problem that you've stumbled onto. Like almost all large portals, Yahoo annoyingly assumes in their " Help " section that WE are the ones that need help, and that THEY never do. In all fairness, if they made it easy to complain about problems, they would probably get MILLIONS of such complaints per day, and the vast majority would be some variant of " user error " , i.e. nothing really wrong at Yahoo. This is frustrating when there clearly IS something wrong. Still, you'd think they would allow presumably intelligent moderators to contact them. But there are probably tens of thousands of Yahoo groups, not all run by technophiles. Notice though, that they do provide a way to give them feedback about their ADS. Sigh. This policy is explained at http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/groups/groups-39.html .. So I tried drilling down until all the unhelpful FAQs and other cr*p they offered were exhausted, and sure enough just as promised, I was able to send " them " a question. I pasted your statement of the problem, added that this happened to all my groups and that other have reported this too, and we'll see if I get a reply (they say to wait a few days). I will post the answer here, if I get one, or maybe the problem will just go away when they look into it. Partial workaround for now: you can find the first message number for any month, via the month-grid screen at the bottom of the group home page. To narrow down to the right month, you can make educated guesses based on a binary search, i.e. roughly splitting the difference each new try. Then once you've got the right month there's " only " a handful of message-summary screens for each month. Or, you can go directly to the right month, at least, via the month-grid, if you know when the message you're looking for was sent. Hope this helps, sorry if that was obvious. :-) Steve D. Guest guest
Thanks, Steve! You have more patience than I do - I gave up seaching Yahoo " help " (and I do use that term loosely) after about 5 minutes. I have been able to get where I am going - thank goodness it wasn't something in one of the months with 1000+ messages.
