They're not sure what causes it...they say multiple abortions, severe stomach trauma, LSD use...none of which applies in my case. So it basically can happen at any time during the pregnancy. I had a routine u/s at 18 wks, and no one noticed bands or a CF (not to say they weren't there). But one woman I read about had a u/s at 35 wks & baby was fine, went into labor 1 wk later & baby was born without a foot. So when it happens, the effects can happen very quickly. Guest guest
Wow, That's scary. None of those causes would apply to me either. I wonder if having my kids so close together and having a prior c- section could have weakend something? Just a thought. I am sure not because of it happening to those who give natural birth as well. I guess will never know. I know my US at 20wks showed CF, then I had another at 31wks just to confirm that it was only CF. No mention of ABS. Guest guest
Each baby/pregnancy develops it's own amniotic sac, so I don't see how prior pregnancies could effect it. Maybe if you were nutritionally lacking...possibly from having too many babies or too close together?...the sac may not develop as strongly or something. (By " you " I mean a general " you " --not YOU specifically!) But my kids have all been *natural* births. I do know that it's pretty rare, and that if it happens to you once, you're no more likely to have it happen again than anyone else. It's not genetic (as far as they know). ABS seems like something that's not really researched...almost like they don't want to research it too much, because one thing I read said that most unexplained cases of fetal limb amputation can be attributed to ABS...kind of like a " catch- all " diagnosis. Although I suppose it would be difficult to research, it seems like many people don't know about it until after the baby is born. > > > > > > Do you know if it happens during a certain trimester? > > > KK > > > > > > > From all the info I've found, it can happen at any time.
