Re: Muscle Relaxant Drug

Hi Ann-Marie--Sorry to read about your PICC infection. In general, I cannot

use any muscle relaxants as cause a marked increase in my muscle weakness.

There are a few other people here who have a similar reaction to muscle

relaxants, but also quite a few who use them successfully. I'm guessing that

when your infection clears up, your muscles will recover. Meanwhile, I hope

you can find something that helps. If you have gotten help from Flexeril in

the past, that would seem safer to me, even with the sedation. I'm always

reluctant to try new drugs when I'm in a crash. But that's just me. Robaxin

may be fine for you.

Hugs,

Barbara

AnnMarie-

I would TRUST your instincts. I read up on the med and it seems iffy

if you are on some of meds listed as in the heavy sedation category.

Perhaps you want to speak with your pharmacist about it.

Our lives with mito are too precious to leave in the care of someone

who #1 doesn't know us, #2 doesn't know how our mito reacts. Be wary

of this.

Feel free to email me offlist.

HUGS

Ann-Marie,

Sorry to hear about the infection. I don't have any experience with the

muscle relaxant you were given, but sometimes when I have cramps during

the day and can't get drowsy I take 1/2 of my Flexeril pill and that

helps some with both issues. Don't try it without the doc's OK though.

Thank you for the suggestion of taking a half of a dose of Flexeril

when I can't afford to be drowsy. Since I have been on Flexeril in

the past, I was sure it wouldn't be a problem with my doc and I was

right. He said go ahead and try it.

Hi Barbara,

I still have a few more days of antibiotics left to take for the line

infection. I was on the IV form of antibiotic while I was in the

hospital, but since i have no access line right now I had to go on the

oral stuff. My IV's while in the hospital were infiltrating every day

and they had to keep pulling out the old IV and putting new ones in.

I am sure that you are right that once my body clears away this

infection that my muscles will start to feel much better. My body

really took a beating with this infection. And Dr. Korson wants me to

have another PICC line placed once my blood cultures come back

negative. I am not looking forward to this at all. :-(

I also didn't want to try a new drug while still fighting this

infection and my body being at an all time low. I wouldn't know if it

was the new med or the infection getting worse. I have decided to not

try the Robaxin and to stay with the Flexeril instead. My doctor

agrees with that as well.

Thanks!!

Hugs,

Ann-Marie
