Barbara-

I've not experienced the sensation of needing to cough when I lye down.

I too would wonder if the fluid, as minimal as it may be, is the cause for

your persistent urge to cough when lying down. I would bring it up again and

see if you can push for an answer.

Laurie, You're right, I've had elevated carbon dioxide at times, detected

via blood work, but the last time it was checked, it was normal, so my new

neuro did not feel the need to do anything. I did have a sleep study a year

ago and they concluded that I did not need C-pap or Bi pap at that time. My

pulmonary function tests were at least 15 years ago, maybe more. They told

me they'd had 80-year-olds who had done better.....Gee. That made me feel

just great.

There have been periods of time during the last 15 years when I've had to

sleep propped up on a stack of pillows to avoid coughing, and I've reported

this to my docs-at-the-time. They just say hmmm and never do anything. I

guess it's time to approach my current PCP with this issue and see how he

responds.
