Guest guest
Personally, I have seen many miscarriages happen not just after WLS, but quite a few immediately after any kind of surgery, so I dont know what thats all about. Make ABSOLUTELY certain you are taking enough vitamins and mineral supplements and religiously take them every day without fail. Especially B12, iron, folate acid, calcium, vit and C and whichever PN vitamin you prefer. My serum iron level was 8 after delivery (normal 30-170), hemoglobin got down to 6.2 (normal average 12-14) and normal ferritin levels are 20-300 MINE WAS 2!!!!!!!!!! 1. I am on the Ortho-Evra birth control patch. I'm worried that it may take a little time for the hormones to get out of my system, allowing me to become pregnant. Since I only have a month, should I stop using the patch now to get a jumpstart on ridding my body of the hormones? <---I'm not too familar with the patch, but with the pills, they want them out of your system 3 months before trying to get pregnant. I think the hormones will linger in your body for a while, 2-34 weeks? anyone else know certain amount of time?? 2. I'm 8 pounds away from goal weight-I don't mind that I may never reach goal if I get pregnant, but I want to be assured that it'll be possible for me to get back to the weight <---- I lost all 18# within 2 weeks (I was breastfeeding too- makes you lose wt more quickly) > > 3. Is there a marked difference in morning sickness post-WLS than > there is pre-WLS?<--------I had none in either pg before or after WLS > > 4. I've heard we can't continue eating low-carb once we become > pregnant-is this true, and if so why is it?<--------carbs are needed for proper brain functioning and development and you are developing a very special brain inside you. This is my rationale. There are other medical reasons, but this is one of the most important ones to me. > > 5. This may sound dumb, but-is there any way that whilst delivering > a baby, that we may push so hard as to disrupt our staple lines? <------it is dependent on where your staple line is, how much weight you gain and how big and in what position the baby is in. Your stomach is in your upper abdomen and uterus in lower. If you push and have a vag delivery the baby should have come down into your pelvis by the time you start pushing so it shouldn't interfere with UPPER abdomen staple/suture lines. If you have to have a c-section, it still shouldn't interfere as you wont be having contractions if you have a section (well, that is the plan anyway!) > 6. Is there any way to increase fertility, allowing me a better > chance at successfully conceiving in my small timeframe?<----if you are still on the patch now and just have a month to conceive that narrows your ability drastically. I would check the package insert about how long you should have the patch off before you are fertile enough to TTC. If you are using the patch once a week, I certainly would take it off NOW, so you can have some return to normal hormonal levels. Again, I'm not too familar with the patch, but you have very little time to get pregnant seeing as how most women are just fertile for a couple-three days each month. (not to be a downer, but being realistic). Best wishes!! Sheila
Guest guest
welcome, lots of questions. it took me 2 months after each time i was on the pill to convcieve, get off teh patch now...2nd, start taking prenatal vitamins to get your body ready, it will increase chances and make sure you start off healthy. you will stay low carb while pregant. my dr said if you can eat two bites of anything, may it count, make it protein. the nausea i have now as compared to pre wls pregnancy is a bit different. since food does not stay inyour pouch long, i dry heave a lot, drink a lot of water, sips...so you have something in your tummy. and everything i've heard from those post partum, say is much easier to lose the weight post partum and post op then pre op. good luck, you're under pressure that's for sure. byt the way, i'm jennifer. i miscarried 3 times, had one child (he's 4 1/2 now) and am 4 months post op and 2 months preggo...welcome...hope you like it here and can find lots of info... jenn (aka mom2ben99 aol and yahoo id) married to currently deployed air force man lap rny 3-12-04 342 lbs. currently 8 weeks pergnant 247 lbs edd feb 18, 2005 > > > Date: 2004/07/11 Sun AM 04:03:45 EDT > To: OSSG-pregnant > Subject: Brand New and I Have TONS of Questions! > >

In other words...eat well and right and exercise and lead a healthy lifestyle, and you won't have any problems. Don't...and you won't get back to your pre-pregnancy weight... > 3. Is there a marked difference in morning sickness post-WLS than > there is pre-WLS? > This is a pregnancy by pregnancy thing....doesn't have to do with WLS. > 4. I've heard we can't continue eating low-carb once we become > pregnant-is this true, and if so why is it? > Because women on low carb diets go into a state of ketosis (one of the points of a low carb diet). Ketones are toxic for an embryo/fetus. This is one of the reasons we check urine for ketones at every visit (but we will only catch the ketones that mother may be spilling AT THAT MOMENT....and it fluxuates from hour to hour)....if you eat low carb, you risk endangering your baby. > 5. This may sound dumb, but-is there any way that whilst delivering a > baby, that we may push so hard as to disrupt our staple lines? > No..absolutely not. By the time you are 2 months postop, your incision sites are healed.... besides that, the reproductive system and digestive system are completely separate systems. As is the musculatory system (that you use while pushing). no...there's no risk of this. > 6. Is there any way to increase fertility, allowing me a better > chance at successfully conceiving in my small timeframe? > Having concieved 2 sets of twins and a singleton (although I'm sorry to hear about your previous losses)...it doesn't sound like fertility is really much of an issue for you. *wink* seriously...the best thing you can do is eat healthy food choices in good amounts and keep yourself healthy.... Guest guest
I was on the pill before I got pregnant. I quit taking it in September last year. By October we found out I was pregnant! I thought for sure it would take a few months, but I guess I was wrong! I was pretty much at my goal when I got pregnant. I did not gain much weight at all during my pregnancy. I continued to eat healthy, some may say I did not eat enough...but they kept forgetting the fact that I could not physically do so! I gained only 15 pounds. I had my postpartum visit on Friday. According to their info, I only had 2 pounds left to lose to be were I was prepregnancy...it's only been 4 weeks! I have to pre wls pregnancies to compare this one to, but I did have morning sickness..right away I might add. I had no problem controlling my carbs. I am not sure if you were told that we shouldn't eat low carb or that we just don't have that control. As far as rupturing your staple line..I wouldn't think that could happen seeing as how the baby is in your uterus, not your stomach. But, you could always check with your surgeon. I am not a dr, so please don't take my word for it! I hope some of this helps you out. If you do get pregnant before your husband is sent to Iraq, boy, you are one strong lady to take care of your son and be pregnant while he is gone! I wouldn't want to have done this alone!! I can understand why you feel such an urge to though. I am 30 now (ugh) and I was determined to be pregnant before I turned 30. I was 28 when I had the surgery. I had to wait until I lost my weight and had my surgeon's okay to get pregnant. It was worth the wait thought. I have to say, if it were not for the surgery, I would not have my little baby girl. I had very abnormal cycles prior to surgery, due to my weight. So, if I would not have done it, I would have never been able to have a family. It's funny, last night, I was trying to figure out when we should try to have our 2nd!!! I don't want to wait forever...but I don't need 2 back to back and I would like her to out of or almost out of diapers...so I am looking at hopefully somewhere around 2 years. I wish I could have started this all earlier in my life, but things happen for a reason. Best of Luck to you TTC!!!
