Welcome back a. So sorry about the passing of your 1st child.

Surgery is a way personal decision. Personally, I'm eternally

grateful for getting rid of the excess weight. & think my doc would

agree that the 113 lbs has made me healthier.

At the risk of sounding preachy, please look into improving your

anemia, if/when you're a post-op, it's something to be really

vigilant about.

Best wishes.

wlsmomma,

Thanks! That has been a bit of a concern to me, being

anemic even before having the surgery. I think the iron

levels are from 33-200 and mine was 20. I did go through a

period of time in the last 3 months that I bled non-stop, so

that may have caused it. I was told to take an iron

supplement, which I think is just now starting to make me

feel less tired. I am also on a prenatal, so I think that

helps pre-surgery too. I think the doctor will either test

me this month or in August to see where my levels are now.

Thank God the bleeding has stopped to normal periods, so I

hope it has improved!!

Moderator note:

My Serum Iron level after delivery was 8 (yes, a mere eight!)

Can you imagine how I felt! lol

I don't have the results back of the most recent labs yet. I just finished my

11th IV iron infusion!! YAY FOR ME!!!

a, I understand your position. It was not until after hubby and I

gave up on having a baby after 18 years of marriage and 2 1/2 years

of fertility treatmeantas, that I decided to have WLS. Had I known

what WLS was going to do to me I would'nt even have gone through the

stress of the fertility stuff.(I have PCOS pretty bad) I started out

5'2 " and 270( the last 35 of that I KNOW came from all the fertility

stuff I was going through) 1 year ago on July 14th I had WLS and

everything went so smoothly for me. My recovery was amazingly quick

and even though I was a slower looser than many in December I had

lost 70 lbs. We were warned that I may become fertile after WLS and

to use birth control. On December 23 we had 1 spontaneous unprotected

night. Afterward I said " you know that we need to be careful so I

don't get pregnant before 1 year after surgery " He said " you don't

think you got pregnant tonight do you? " Of course with my history I

said NO but we have to be careful. Well here I am pregnant from that

1 night! I am now 31 weeks and doing great even though I did not

finish loosing weight as planned. WLS did for me what 18 years of

unprotected marriage and fretility treatments could not do, and we

were not even trying. I was diabetic pre op on 2 oral meds and 2

insulines and now I don't even have gestational diabetes. Yeah I

still have a lot of weight to loose but had I known how much more

healthy and fertile my body would be after WLS I would have done this

10 years ago. Good luck on getting approval for your surgery and

although I know that you will still be TTC for another month I

personally hope you get the WLS first and give your baby a healthy

body to start out in. Either way wheather you get WLS or become

pregnant you have an amazing journey ahead of you. - Diane

Diane,

I started my clomid this afternoon, 150mgs. I am so

stressed already about getting pg this month. I want

another baby, but really want the surgery, but am SUPER

afraid to try after the surgery is done. There are so many

factors that I am afraid to deal with and since we lost our

first, I would be so afraid to try getting pg after the

surgery, since I have heard there are a lot of m/c's and

other issues. Actually reading all of your posts, I am able

to see what it would be like and if dh and I can handle

going through it. I am so very happy for you and glad you

are having a good pregnancy. I had toxemia and gest.

diabetes with my last pg and gest. diabetes with my first

and he was delivered too early to know if I would have

developed toxemia with him. Believe me, I do not WANT to be

pg again at this weight. I guess I have to take the meds

and then give it over to God. I was going to have my doctor

submit my claim for the surgery to insurance this week, but

I think I will wait another few weeks. I think I would be a

little upset if I find out I am pg and then a few days later

find out I was approved for the surgery!! So, I should find

out by the end of the first week in August if the clomid

worked and will meet with the surgeon immediately following

if I didn't get pg. How long did it take everyone's

insurance to accept your surgery request? I have Deere

insurance and hear they are okay, but each case is

different. I have to go through two more doctors visits

before I have completed my requirements. I want the surgeon

to send off the request early so I have an approval with

only the final contingencies. I don't want to have the

psyche evaluation and get fitted for a diaphram/IUD (surgeon

will not do the surgery if I am on bcp's because of possible

blood clots) until I know for sure the surgery has been

approved. This is going to be a LONG month, I believe!! I

cannot wait to know what path God has chosen for me!!

a, If you should become pregnant before surgery is scheduled

most insurence companies keep the approval for a year I think so you

could just schedule it for after the birth. I knew a lady on another

group that actuallu had that happen by accident and then scheduled

surgery for when her son was 3 months old. That gave her some time

with him first and time for pregnancy recovery and was still with in

the time limits for approval with her insurence. As far as pregnancy

after WLS yes there are some MC's but there are MC's for people not

having surgery. Once you read along here awhile you will find that

the majority of post ops have very healthy pregnancys and to me the

% of complications and MC's seem to be about the same out there in

the world with out surgery. Pre op I had 3 miscarriages all in the

80's - my body was not hormonally stable enough to maintain a

pregnancy. After the 80's I couldn't even concieve with maximum doses

of Clomid and ovarian surgery. I know the environment this little

girl is growing in is now so much healthier than it would have been

before surgery.(and back in the 80's I weighed 160 or less and was

not diabetic yet- so it is much more than the amount I weighed) I do

understand your concerns about getting pregnant post op- that is why

I didn't even think of WLS until after I gave up on having a baby. I

was terrified at first but found that those concerns although

legitimate were not as bad as I was making them. As far as

thenutrition thing post op the baby will always get what it needs

first and even post op we get much higher nutrition than many women

in third world countries who have many babies. Know which ever

direction this turns for you we will be here the ease your concerns

and a good doc will take care of you to make sure everything goes

well. Good Luck. - Diane

Diane,

I was wondering about that. I definitely want and NEED

the surgery, so I was a little concerned if I got approved

what would happen. Glad to know that they have an approval

time frame. I will have to find out what happens at the end

of the month. How long did it take everyone to get

approved? Today was the second day of clomid, so only 3

more days to go. I have a follicle scan in two weeks and

should know from that what our chances are. I am excited

for both things to happen, but I think I am 70/30 for the

surgery first. I told my hubby that the surgery is for ME

and wanting another baby is for our US. We'll just have to

wait to find out how God decides to unveil his plans for us.

I have to admit, this month is going to go by soooo slow, I

can tell. My hubby is great, though. He totally wants the

surgery for my health, but is very concerned of getting pg

after it. I know if I hang around here a little more, we

will both start feeling a little better about it, if we

don't get pg this month. I am not sure what to cross my

fingers and toes for this month. This is the first time ttc

that I have actually kind of hoped it won't work!! But if

we do get pg, I know I will be on cloud 9 anyway and will

have to plan for the surgery later on. Just seems the

longer I wait, the less likely it is to happen, you know?

Anyway, thanks for the info. It definitely helps me feel

better knowing I will probably have an approval period to

have the surgery. Thanks soooo much!!
