Also, look into SSI (disability payments paid to disabled children, but it is income based). You can find out more by calling . I know several families on this list benefit from SSI. Another option is calling Insure Kids Now at or www.insurekidsnow.gov. This will put you in direct contact with your own states children's health insurance. Another program to look into is a Medicaid Waiver, which is generally not income based, but each state runs it differently. In our state, you get standard medicaid plus additional programs such as environmental modifications, respite, nursing care, etc. You can call 800-33-4227 or for more information. Don't let the medicaid office say they don't have a waiver program. Each state has one, but they don't all call it that. Sometimes it is referred to as " Beckett " . You need to be persistent.
