Guest guest
I too live in Virginia and . . . having been to the funeral home this year for one ASD child who wandered off from his home and drowned, I don't think you are too cautious. I think, for myself, I always need someone watching my 8-yr-old. Not another 8-yr-old whom I *think* is in charge, but someone who actually is. Either a teen (paid) or myself or another mom. I know that your friends probably think you are overly cautious but . . . when I go outside to watch my son play with neighborhood kids, then I get some sun, fresh air, and exercise myself. I can always think of a hundred things to be doing inside but . . . sometimes we just gotta do what is best for our own particular family, including being outside when others think we are overly protective! Just my .02 on how it works for my 8-yr-old with Asperger's syndrome. I am not sure whether he will *ever* have consistent common sense to not get into trouble (not to mention other kids around him still try to take advantage of his lack of common sense)! All my best, M.
