Guest guest
When we got out DBB, I knew about the different types of shoes but not bars. Our dr. gave us a bar that clamps onto the shoes. This wouldn't be a problem except for the screws sticking out. They scratch us, and when he starts grabbing his feet I worry about him hurting himself. They also do not have the degrees on them. Has anyone had this type before? Did you switch to a new type? If I were to switch, does anyone know where I would order a different bar? Thanks, , BCF 11/19/
Guest guest
, our very first bar that was provided to us by the doctor was the red fixed length bar that clamped on to the sides of the shoes. I didn't like it at all - I found that if Owen kicked hard enough, he could move or dislodge the shoes from their original position. At the time, this was the only type of bar that the doctor had. At our next appointment, I asked for a prescription for new shoes and an adjustable length bar. I took the prescription to the orthotist and she ordered from Markell. Markell carries both types of bar (or at least they used to) so it's important that you let whoever is ordering know which type you want. However, the clamp style do not appear on their website. From what I understand, the clamp style does not work well with the 'new design' shoes because the lip on the new shoes is considerably narrower so there is less area to 'clamp' on to. You can visit Markell's website to see what is available: http://www.markellshoe.com/tarso1.html - from this page, click on the link for " Info on New Open Toe Boots for Ponseti Method of treating Clubfoot " ...it opens up a pdf file but there you can see all of the available bars. Hope this helps, Daiga and Owen, 02/04/03 Unilateral LCF, FAB 14/7 > When we got out DBB, I knew about the different types of shoes but not bars. Our dr. gave us a bar that clamps onto the shoes.
