Hi all,

Henry (3ys, 29lbs, 36in) had a Nissen, G-Tube and Pyloro 16 months ago and I

immediately noticed the positive impact the surgery had on his reflux. Well,

now he is back with the same reflux issues prior to surgery and Dr. H has put

him on Prilosec in the AM and Zantac in the PM. He will not take a pill and

the oral suspension of Prevacid just seemed a bit risky with the grandules

going through the G-Tube, so she is recommending a liquid preparation of

Prilosec.

Does anyone have experience with the liquid prep? Is it as effective as

opening up a capsule and putting the contents in apple juice? I know with

Prevacid

and Prilosec it is all about the little grandules - not crushing them so they

work over a period of time. The drawback to the liquid prep is you lose that

over time concept because the grandules are put into solution.

The other issue with the liquid prep is needing to go to a compounding

pharmacy which naturally is not the CVS we go to for all his other meds. This

issue

is a total personal guilt Mom thing because the reality of getting to this

special pharmacy is just another addition to the list - the one we all have that

never gets smaller!

Any suggestions?

Grazie,

-Mount Vernon NY, (Henry 3 almost 4 RSS, 8 nonRSS)

PS. Do you really need 4oz of water for a full dose of Miralax? I hate using

up space in his stomach with something that is not going to add calories.

His gastric emptying is ridiculously slow and 4oz just seems like a bit much.
