Guest guest
No special tests other than the usual raft of mito stuff, just trial and error. For example in 1988 I started riboflavin and within a short time had substantial relief from pain and big improvement in weakness and tolerance for activity. That was the first clue that the best way to reduce my symptoms was by boosting the impaired metabolic pathways. (Riboflavin is cofactor for many pathways involved in fat metabolism and also for complex I.) Rx potassium has provided a similar relief for my neuropathic symptoms such as burning and hypersensitive skin. (I had a 20-year history of low potassium which had not been treated.) I also respond well to creatine monohydrate and phosphates combined, the idea being that it boosts ATP (muscle fuel) by increasing phosphocreatine stores in muscle, an alternate source of ATP. The idea is that providing more available fuel reduces the metabolic stress that induces the pain, weakness, etc. Food is very important for me too---what I eat makes a big difference in how I feel. However, I will say that from my years of networking, probably I am more responsive to co-factors than most mito patients. Some of these treatments have given me sustained dramatic improvement and I don't often hear those kinds of stories here.
