Doctor Joan is self-diagnosing herself (maybe a mistake), but the dizziness

was really major, and didn't go away even after sitting. It was enough to

make me sick to my stomach, and lasted an hour plus. I did find my blood

pressure cuff (not used for about 3 years because new medication finally

worked). I did take my son's bp too to test somewhat of an accurate

reading. Mine was 119/69, so fine today, and no dizziness. I go to the

weight clinic on Monday, and they'll check me then.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Just a note about my dizzy spells, the doctor checked this a.m. and it was

90/60. I checked my home one at the same time and it was 5+ points higher,

so apparently my home readings were lower than I thought. I'm taking 40mg.

Zestril, and the doctor said to cut to 10mg. So.........if anyone is

having dizzy spells and you're on a blood pressure medication, have your

blood pressure checked.

Lori, thanks. I'm going to cut it down in the a.m. One doctor told me in

1/2, the other 1/4, so who do you believe?? But if my blood pressure

stabilizes and I'm still dizzy, I'll know other causes.

yes yes yes !!! I was so happy for this Update Joan, knowing that you had

your Dr Appt, you were on my mind all day. Marvelous that the Doc cut your

Zestril to 10mg., evidence that your body is normalizing .. getting healthy.

Wonderful news. A blessing. Good for you, good news indeed.

This surgery, we all get here via weight challenges .. but really, it cures

so much more!!!

Mandy, this a.m. I wasn't sure which doctor to go with, the one changing

Zestril to 10mg. or 20mg. Decided to go with my primary doctor who

prescribed it and took 20 mg. Just got back from town and checked it, and

was 102/51. The 51 scared me, so I'm keeping tabs on it, and tomorrow a.m.

I'm dropping it to 10 mg. What I don't know is it the medication stops

working right away, or if it's in the body still working on the blood

pressure. Yes!!!! the phasing away of another medication! Psychologically

I'm loving it. Drugs felt like a noose around my neck. I'll feel so much

better when this light-headedness (actually also like a fogginess) in my

head quits. I'll probably have my granddaughter for 2-3 days over the New

Year's, so decided as I've already been out for 3 hours this a.m., I'm

rebelling and only doing the laundry today.....NOTHING ELSE!!!! Thanks so

much for your concern and constantly " up " personality. That and laughter

seem to keep me in a very happy place.

The new standards now out there because of the obesity problems have been

lowered.... As well as the BMI has been lowered for determining obesity. Now it

is becoming a trend anyone who has a B/P consistently of 130-140 over 80 or

higher are being put on medications. They find even a slightly high blood

pressure leads to higher risks of heart disease... Just keep an eye on your

pressures. usually someone who is concerned will start a log book. If you go

frequently to places where it can be done or your Dr's Office is willing to do

it whenever. keep a log of what you did before having it done. You can even

learn to do it yourself. Ask the Dr or nurses to teach you and go buy an

inexpensive blood pressure cuff and stethoscope which will run about 25

dollars...

Hope this info helps.........

Do many people on the list have high blood pressure? I just heard that

my 21 year old grand daughter had a blood pressure reading of 158/110

yesterday at her doctor visit. Her pressure has been creeping up for a

year. She is not over weight and is involved in a lot of physical

activities.

Laurie, Have they found a med or regimin that has helped your blood

pressure? My is spiraling upward in spite of changes and additions to

my meds.

Thanks, Pat K

I was doing well on 20mg Accupril (Ace inhibitor) and 25 mg Tenormin

(Beta Blocker) twice a day until my heart became enlarged. The doc.

doubled my Accupril (normal adult dose) and added a diuretic which has

brought it down, but not as low as it should be. My kidney doc wants

me on the Ace inhibitor as it protects the kidney's, rather than harm

them. I have to stay on a small dose of a Beta Blocker because of some

minor heart issues many years ago. My kidney doc wants my lower number

below 70 because of my kidney issues. My personal opinion (for me

anyway) is that lower doses of multiple meds is better than high doses

of just one.

Good luck finding something that works for you.

High blood pressure is not uncommon in mito. I have been on blood

pressure meds for many years and it just went high. I would think it

should be treated if that high.
