ok, this was posted on my other email group, sorry, in my stress

induced brain fart, I forgot I was in two groups!!

---------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone, please excuse any typos, I am using a laptop, and not

familiar with it. Thank you for the message ! Thank you

everyone for the well wishes!

Ok, this is what is what happened: I took RJ in for his

circumcision yesterday. We got done, and the doc said everything

looked great. I had to stop over at my dads work to pick up some

parts to our heat pump (the fan motor had burned up a week ago and

we had no heat), stop and get a script filled for RJs pain meds, and

then went home. It was maybe 2.5 hours from the time they did the

surgery, til I went to change his diaper. His diaper was filled

with blood. I called the urologist office, which was closed by this

time, so had to wait for the doctor on call to call back. After 15

minutes, and already there was a spot of blood showing on his diaper

the size of a half dollar, I called his peds doctor, who called me

back with in 5 minutes. He told me to take him into the pediatric

ER. Just as I was getting to walk out the door, the urologist

called back, and also said for me to go to the er, both docs said

they would call ahead and let them know I was on the way, and what

was going on. Before I left, I had called my parents to meet me up

at the hospital, since Jake had a minor cold and was running a low

grade fever, he couldn't come, Jim was going to stay home with him

so he could get the heat pump fixed ( which he did, YEAH

HEAT!!!!!). I got to the hospital, and I had brought the original

diaper to show them the blood loss. We got back into the room

quickly, and as soon as the peds doc touch Jakes penis, blood shot

up like a fountain! It took 2 doctors putting pressure on his penis

(back to back, not both at once)and about 15 minutes to get the

bleeding stopped. My mom told me later that the urologist had

called while we were in the exam room, and she heard the ER doc

talking to him, and he sounded PISSED. Like the urologist didn't

understand exactly HOW much bllod RJ had lost. About 15 minutes

later, the urologist showed up, and pushed the foreskin down to

reveal a good sized hemotoma ( I think I am spelling that correct).

While all this was going on, we had been discussing blood cloting

problems in our family. Luckily my mom was back in the exam room

with me, so she was able to answer some of the questions better than

I can. WE have a family history of a disease called " von

willebrands disease " . Basically it is where the blood doesn't clot

like it is suppose to, but it runs in cycles, and normally only has

to having anything done about it when surgery is being performed.

They pulled blood work to check his clotting factor (see results

below). The urologist decided they were going to take him up the OR

and remove the hemotoma, and put in a few stitches to keep it from

opening back up. they also gave him some cryoprecipitate, which is

basically frozen plasma to help bring his clotting factor up. When

I found out that they were goihng to be doing all of this, I called

Jim, who got things together for Jake to stay with my parents, since

I was going to be up at the hospital with RJ, and he had to work, (

it was volunteered for OT, which if he didn't work it, he would have

been fired, and why sit up here and worry, when he can sit and worry

there and make money doing it?) About midnight we got up to the

room, and both of us collapsed into sleep. This morning the

hemotologist came up to see us. RJs clotting factor was at 12% of

normal last night. The doctor told us RJ has basically has one of

two diseases: Van Willebrands disease, or hemophilia. Honestly, we

are hopeing for the Van willabrands, since we woulnd't have to worry

about meds daily. As of this afternoon, RJs clotting factor was up

to 54%. THe hemotologist he having factor 8 given to RJ every 12

hours, and there are 4 doses, so it looks like we are going to be

here until Monday morning. I am current using the laptop the

belongs to the hospital to check my email. I

I hope that I was able to explain everything. I really need to get

some sleep.. My head has already hit the desk 3 times, and it is

leaving really nasty bruises. I will try to write again tomorrow

when I find out something new. If anyone would like to call, my

cell number is 1-. Just wait until Sunday after4noon to

give me a chance to find out something new.

TTFN,

Niki, Jim, Jake and RJ
