Guest guest
OK. Here we go. The speaker schedule for the upcoming MAGIC convention. Beginning Thursday evening, July 22 - Sunday July 25th Marriott O'Hare Hotel in Chicago (fly into O'Hare and get a free hotel shuttle; Midway takes a $40 taxi ride) Friday (daycare provided) 9-12pm Dr. Stanhope will again come from England and speak on the characteristics of RSS versus the SGA child, and how does one make the diagnosis of the 2. Then Dr. Harbison will speak to her treatment protocol (Stanhope will be with her for backup) and she will talk about any new studies/info that has come out. 12-1pm LUNCH carts -- food available for purchase 1-2:30pm Dr. Harbison (but we may end up getting THE Dr. Barker who did the original England study!!!!) will be speaking on insulin resistance and the other health risks that are higher for children born SGA. 2:30 - 4:00pm. Now you have a choice. You can go and listen to Dr. Spigland, Dr. Ursea and Dr. Harbison speak on the common gut dysmotility issues that affect SGA/RSS kids (all 3 flying in from NY; they are the GI team at Dr. H's hospital); or you can go to the " Practical Adapations for living as a short statured adult " presentation that will feature a panel of RSS adults. Saturday morning You choose again. SOOO many choices. 8:30-10:00am 10:15 - 11:45am 1) Ann Guild will give a presentation and hands-on clinic on " Why Isn't My CHild Eating! " -- focusing on feeding therapy. (this lasts the entire 3 hours) 2) Published author Phelan will speak on Attention Deficit Disorder. This should go just the first 90 minutes, and we hope to have an endocrinologist or 2 who can answer any questions on medication and its impact on appetite and growth. 3) 10:15 - 11:45am. Dr. Sandberg will speak on " Family Matters " -- discussing family issues that arise when one child has medical issues -- including marriage, in-laws, grandparents, etc. This should be really good. Pool party will again be for the RSS/SGA group on Saturday, although it will be a " purchase your own sandwich " event because last year it ended up costing us about $8,000 for the event!!! (the hotel charged us like $20 per person!) Dr. Harbison will again graciously offer free consultations. These will again be scheduled beginning April - July and be first -come first scheduled, AFTER you have registered for the convention. All returning children MUST be seen on Wednesday or Thursday before the convention begins. SCHOLARSHIPS. Thanks to several families, we will again have a scholarship program, which will pay your hotel for 3 nights and your registration. Please email me privately to apply. If you want to also fundraise the monies to pay your airfare/gas/meals, we have EASY brochures that you can hand out and people can make tax deductible donations to MAGIC in your name, and then we reimburse you with your raised funds. Whew. Lots of info. Please contact me for more info. MAGIC will have the actual registration materials printed in another month or so.
