However, I saw Dr. Goldberg in person at a medical conference and learned some things about him that you won't get from just reading his website. First, he does recommend lowering sugar . He just says that if it is unavoidable, you could use Nutrasweet. I agree with you about the Nutrasweet. I don't want my kid using it either, however, I would consider using it in small, infrequent treats. Second, Dr. Goldberg does recommend the diet sometimes. It just depends on the kid. At that conference, he did question the peptide testing, stating that it may not mean a whole lot. But he also says that if your child does well on the diet, you should stick with it. When asked why some kids do poorly on it, he says that it is usually what was used to replace the wheat--like soy. He also believes that all of our kids should be off of milk and corn completely. I also agree with you about vaccinations. But in his opinion--and he is entitled to it--the scientific evidence doesn't support that the vaccines is the problem. I, for one, am still inclined NOT to vaccinate again. Finally, he doesn't believe in feeding your kid junk. He just believes in making sure that the food you feed your child is well-pasturized and free of impurities like artificial flavors, etc. We have all seen that our kids react poorly to artifical flavors and colors. I also remember a few years ago when some young kids died from drinking organic, unpasturized applejuice. It was found to contain the bacteria ecoli. Dr. Goldberg is concerned that feeding a child something that is not pure would be devastating to a child with a bad immune system. Now, what I do like about Dr. Goldberg is that he has a theory and that he has ONE theory. He believes that the majority of our kids DONT actually have autism but in fact have an autoimmune disease. Most importantly, he believes that ALL of our kids can recover and will someday be totally CURED of autism. That is the part I really like. You are right that not all parents love Dr. Goldberg. However, I certainly hope that this group of OPEN minded parents who have felt the frustration of people discounting their instincts will be openminded enough to welcome Dr. Goldberg and his theory to the discussion table. in TX
