Guest guest
Dear Leah, Kearns here. My son Connor is an eater and we haven't had to g- tube him. However, with only 3-4 oz of food to work with at a time, I have to make it as nutrionalloy dense as possible. Here are some dietary suggestions: Sweet potatoes are a complex carb but have a low glycemic index. They are also packed with good nutrients. Steam, mash and then add butter, canola oil or flax seed oil to them. This will boost the calories by 100-120 cals. Then add cinnamon, brown sugar and maple syrup for taste. I add half and half, but I understand Olivia is allergic to milk. Is she on Peptmen Jr? Add this if she can't tolerate the milk. Have you tried Peanut Butter yet? First are there any peanut allergies in your family? Be throrough in your search. If not, run it by a nurse or pediatrician first. Peanuts are a huge allergen. BUt, it Olivia can tolerate them, Peanut Butter is full of sugar and carbs and PROTEIN! A little PB on a cracker with butter to boot. A very high calorie snack. Can Olivia tolerate eggs? Scrambled eggs in margarine are packed full of iron, vitamin C and protein. Toss in some chopped spinach and bacon bits for additional flavor and nutrients. I will call my nutritionist and ask her for any suggestions. I'll get back to you soon. Mom to Graham 7; Cameron 4; Connor 16 months IUGR SGA/RSS? Periactin, Zantac. 14lbs 11 oz. 28 1/4 inches long.
