Guest guest
hi everyone! my poor little christopher was sick with some stomach virus this weekend. he had really bad diaharia on friday afternoon that cont. through the night and then he started with the vomiting. (unfortunantly for my husband it was all over him since christopher was in our bed) i called our ped. office and was told by the resident on call to take him to the er (which i was going to anyway since i was worried about him dehydrateing he couldnt keep any fluide down). we get to the er only for me to be told that i was worry to much and to take him home and try to keep pushing fluids and not to worry if he kept vomiting because he will not vomit every thing that he takes in some will stay down. the dr had no idea what rss even was and said he looked it up in a book that they have and couldnt find it. i tried to explain it to him and how they canhave problems with their bs and dehydration since they dont take in alot to begin with. he just sent us home after a 1/2 of being there after doing nothing for him and telling me not to worry so much!! luckly i got christopher to finally keep some fluids dopwn and eat chicken soup and ice cream. i just dont understand how a dr who doesnt know anything about your childs condition can just dismiss you as a worry wart parent instead of listening to youand your concerns. i dont know what i should or could do if this happens again to us. any ideas. sorry so long just needed tovent a little! jodie (nicholas-5 nonrss, christopher-3 rss 22lbs 33 " , johnathon-7m nonrss)
Guest guest
Jodie, Sorry to hear about being sick, and for the fact that you had a tough time with the ER doctor. We carry around the blue MAGIC RSS brochure at all times. It explains RSS for doctors and nurses who aren't familiar with it (and most aren't). This way in an emergency we can hand it to them. There is also a letter that was given out at the convention for parents, written by Dr. Harbison, that explains how to manage an RSS infant. In it there is discussion about what to do if your child becomes ill. Unfortunately, there are big egos in the medical field and some doctors don't want to listen to a mom or dad. Carrying these with you can help you fight for the necessary medical treatment and backs up what you are telling them. I would also make sure 's pediatrician understands the protocol. This way when you are in the ER they can call and verify things. I am glad to hear is doing better.
