Guest guest
when I graduated from nursing school in 1989, there wasn't a shortage. Most specialty units wouldn't hire you unless you had experience, but I don't know where they thought you were going to get experience b/c no one would hire you without it. lol Now, since the shortage is rather severe, new grads are getting hired straight into specialty units. I think especially for ER/ICU/CCU/ONC you need a strong med-surg background first, but with OB, OR, SDS, PACU, hemodialysis, public or home health, or Dr's office it's all kinda " hands-on " experience. Strangely enough, the 2 major tests I thought I failed miserably (psych and OB) I passed with an A! lol jmo, Sheila
