Guest guest
Hi!, I to have claustrophobia & have had 4 MRI's. I didn't take meds but had my eyes covered, made sure my arms were tight against my body and visalized being in open spaces. This has worked for me but you also have a panic buzzer in case you can't cope. Good Luck I hope this helps. Guest guest
Yes, this is what I do too, keep my eyes closed, not even a peek, think big thoughts and take slow deep breaths. My claustrophobia is not as severe as some, but was enough to make me dread the frequent MRIs necessary to follow a benign brain tumor. The funny thing is that after 5 years of MRIs, they don't bother me nearly as much now, even the closed variety. My latest one in Feb was on a new machine and they actually had a periscope-type mirror over my head so that if I did open my eyes, I could see the spacious room, not the inside of the machine. Guest guest
Hi Marie, I also have problems with both open and closed MRI's. In the past I did fine. But all of a sudden I couldn't handle them. I have also been pulled out of them. What I don't understand is why I could handle them before but now I can't. What changed? With my last one I took a valium and had the nurse tape a picture of me with my beloved Sally(Mastiff puppy dog) and that helped me a lot. Maybe you might think of taking a picture of something or someone that calms you and have the nurse tape it in front of your eyes!! You can also take a CD of your favorite music for them to play while you have the test. And NO procrastinating!! Your health is important and you need this test.!! Good Luck!! God Bless!!
