Guest guest
Oh I know they are kids who are overweight for different reasons but this poor baby could barely climb in the chair and they kep forcing that bottle at her to stop her from making any noise at all. My neighbors little girl who i picked up from headstart everyday with my daughter was a 1#9 oz baby born at 26 weeks, She is now a 41/2 year old, not sure how tall, but she is 85 pounds and she could not get in my van. She was a bread junkie and other carb eater and her Mom was trying to stop her but she would sneak it. They do not know how she got that big since she was so tiny at birth and they never overfed or force fed her but she is and now she has problems. i know it is not that Moms fault but i think the ones at the docs wanted to keep the kid occupied so they would not have to bother. My boy is overweight at 82 pounds, age 8, and it bothers me cause people call him fat boy just ebing cute sometime and it hurts my feelings. But i know there are all kinds of reasons. Guest guest
I agree with you, Pam... it grieves me to see the obvious neglect situations like this one appeared to have been. But there are also metabolic disorders that can cause such things. I wish more parents would be proactive about such things instead of just assuming that they got " stuck with a fat kid " , so to speak. Obesity has been treated for WAY too long as some kind of moral failure. I think when people finally look at it as an outward symptom of some other issue (either mental, emotional or physical) and actually hunt down the true culprit instead of blaming the obese person, we will have made big strides toward being healthy humans. -Kris Wood on 5/18/04 3:45 PM, Pamela at ozzette@... wrote: there are some of us out there with overweight children who didn't do it on purpose, and didn't substitute food for care and attention. Guest guest
I have heard that being a preemie can lead to obeisity because of metabolic disorders. i had a friend that was a preemie and weighed in at 2 lbs 14 oz at birth. she fought weight problems all of her life and none in her family had a weight issue. She was told by a doctor that sometimes preemies have metabolic disorders because of the early birth and lack of development. Also when they are first born they want to get and keep the weight up so that adds to the stress on the underdeveloped metabolism. Furthermoore these babies are used to being overfed so often it becomes a comfort type thing where they easily use food for reasons other than hunger. They are taught from infants to eat when they are not necesscerily hungry and it continues through life for some. I am no doctor but this is what I heard and it does sound like it makes since to me. Just FYI - Diane > Oh I know they are kids who are overweight for different reasons but this > poor baby could barely climb in the chair and they kep forcing that bottle at her > to stop her from making any noise at all. Guest guest
I have heard that being a preemie can lead to obeisity because of metabolic disorders. I have never heard of this before.being on a list with preemie moms for many years, and being a preemie mom myself. My daughter was a 30 weeker (3lbs 5 ounces at birth) and is now a 4 year old, just catching up size-wise with her peers. Hmmm. Chele
Guest guest
This is what I was told back in the late 80's - like I said I am not a doctor but it is what I have heard. Medicine has come a long way since then also so maybe it was a belief back then but no longer. I don't know but the theory does make sense to me and maybe it does not affect ALL babies that are preemies. - Diane > > > I have heard that being a preemie can lead to obeisity because of > metabolic disorders. > > > I have never heard of this before.being on a list with preemie moms for > many years, and being a preemie mom myself.
