Guest guest
- a couple things, from one parent to another. First of all,I have heard from some parents on the GHD listserve that some children do feel stinging with one type of a dilutant versus another. I think you need to talk with your endo or pharmacy about trying another dilutant to see if that helps. Second of all, you aren't wiping with an alcohol pad, right? DON'T! @!! That can make it sting. Third, what size needle are you using. 31 gauge short needle is the best. the higher the number the thinner/tinier the needle. some doctors prescribe 29 gauge but kids can definitely feel the difference. OK, after changing all the above. Now you could ask and try using a regular syringe and place it in the Eli Lilly injectease. (ask me about this if you don't remember my prior emails). When I use to be on the MAGIC GHD listserve, there were kids like . I think the key is that you can NOT stop right now. The fact is that he knows if he keeps screaming that eventually you will quit. Eventually he will learn that sadly, this is not an option. My husband used to remind me, what if was a diabetic -- we would be giving her this same shot 4-5 times a day!!!! (diabetics use the same size syringe!). So you know that it can't truly hurt him that much (if you remove the issue of the dilutant and size of needle). But he is scared and working himself up too much (again, if you change the dilutant and needle and it still goes on). Is he a sound sleeper? Could you give him the shot at night? Although you don't want to screw up his sleep if he is freaking out that much. I know right now he is probably yelling all kinds of horrible things at you, just smile and know that you are doing your best. Ignore him. He is trying to push your buttons in any way he can so that you will stop the shots. It is absolutely natural for him to do this, OK? Keep me posted. > Hi all it seems that when you finally think their is help for our > kids something goes wrong!! Guest guest
Hi , Well, this reply is so late, I don't know if it's going to help you or not (sorry for the delay - I'm trying to catch up on hundreds of messages). sounds a lot like Tyler! We started Tyler on GH in August 2003, when he was 4 1/2 years old. The first week was OK, then he just lost it. We persevered like that for a couple more weeks with hysteria and then decided to do it while he was asleep. This has worked incredibly well!!! He doesn't even know he's having it done and never talks about it in the morning. It avoids all anxiety on his part, and we can get him to bed without the hassle of doing the shot. We found the best time to do it is when he's in a deep sleep about 1 - 1 1/2 hours after he falls asleep. If we go into his room, and he doesn't seem like he's sleeping well, we wait and check on him later. He rouses sometimes for a few seconds but always goes back to sleep immediately and has no recollection in the morning. I hope you've sorted something out by now since you wrote this over 5 weeks ago. Good luck. (Tyler's mom - age 5; 104 cms - that's 10 cms growth in 10 months on GHT; 14 kgs)
