Guest guest
- I had to chime in on this one. I think really has some good wisdom on this issue. I also have a child that has Sensory Intergration issues- Braxton, (who happens to be my non RSS child) was diagnosed with Autism. I can totally empathize with the struggles of dealing with a child in that area! It is often so exhausting! I do agree with - Don't let him win this one. It is often seems like pure torture working through issues like this with a child that has Sensory Intergration. It is often a very misunderstood diagnosis to friends, family and the general public. Most people that are on the side lines think that it is just lack of discipline and don't realize that sometimes many of the most simple things in life are just too much for these kids. When Braxton was a baby he would even scream (like someone was trying to kill him) every time we would go over a hill in the car or someone picked him up and lifted him higher than their shoulders. One of the greatest things happened (and at first it didn't seem so great)! We took care of these three Therapeutic Teenagers and they basically worked him through his fear. He screamed a lot at first and eventually he worked through it. It may take a while but I don't think he will give you a smoother chance the next time around if you put it on hold and try again later. These kids are usually very in tune with their fears. My thought is don't let him win this one. Be very firm with him! These kids know when you are empathetic and will play on it until they win! Also keep his routine the same and do it at that same time every day. Maybe if you do it first thing in the a.m. you can get it out of the way and both go on with your day. You might even try it right before he wakes up around 5:30 or 6 in the morning. I will pray God gives you strength! (mommy to Hannah and Braxton) P.S Don't Lose this one! If you can win this one you may win many other battles.
