Hi Suzyq,

Yes I take pain meds and when I do so I would/am unable to work, drive, etc.

But, remember that different meds affect folks differently. each case should

be evaluated on it's own merit. Generally the warning on the side of the

container should be given serious attention.

Best wishes, Poncho - GA

Suzy,

I was able to work for about 2 years on my pain meds, but then I had to

go on disability as the side effects of the pain meds made it difficult

for me to continue working. My job depended a lot upon my memory and my

accuracy and the pain meds affected both badly and it pretty much made

it impossible for me to continue working. I'm in the process of applying

for SSD.

Suzy,

Some of us are taking pain medications like Percocet or

Hydrocodone that contain a stronger narcotic called oxycone,

with is an opiod. Some of us also wear duragestic patches

which contain the drug fentanyl. And yet others take Oxycontin or

MS Oxycontin, which are even stronger narcotics.

Personally, I have difficulty somestimes working while on a full

dose of both my duragesic patch and the Percocet, which I use

for breakthrough pain. I am often overcome with drowsiness,

and frequently have problems concentrating on complex

analytical and mathmatical problems, which are the keystones to

my profession. On the other hand, I am not able to sit at the

drafting board for the long hours required to complete a day's

work when I am in pancreatic pain. I have to pace myself with

frequent breaks, so consequently I'm not able to get much work

done. Some days I'm unable to work at all.

This is just my experience with the medication, I'm sure others

will add their comments to your question.

With hope and prayers,

>I have a general question for all those on the " pain meds. " Are

you all able to continue working while taking the pain meds? I

thought most of the meds contain codeine, etc. so you'd be

unable to continue to work. Thanks.

Post WLS patients that has had the gastric bypass can only take Tylenol. You

aren't suppose to take Ibuprofen, asprin or advil.

I got migraines all throughout my first pregnancy 4.5 years ago. I lived then

and now on tylenol.

I also took tylenol with codeine when it was really severe.

Good luck!

,

My surgeon never mentioned not taking Ibuprofen or Aspirin. I know

of many women who take this post WLS (although they are not

recommended during pregnancy unless prescribed by your OB/GYN).

What is this based upon?

Thanks!

we recommend Tylenol or acetominophen only during pregnancy (over the

counter). If it is severe and Tylenol doesn't get rid of it, call your

OB and ask what they prefer or can call in for you.

Iv'e been taking motrin and ibuprofen since my WLS nearly 5 years ago

without any difficulty. I am lucky b/c I have had to take large

quanities for endometriosis, dental and bone pain. I suppose it has to

do largely with the length of the bypass.

Donna,

My surgeon said that motrin and non-steroidals are very irritating

to normal size tummies and post WLS patients should not take them b/c

of highly irritating they can be especially to smaller stoamachs. I've

been lucky NOT to have had any problems though!
