The doctors were baffled when my 48 year old son passed away last year as his

liver appeared to be that of an alcoholic liver but he only drank an occasionsal

beer when he was with friends. They did list his main cause of death as kidney

failure so this is very interesting to me. Dolores

Hi and other listmembers,

Thank you so much for thinking of me. I so miss my friends on the list. My

computer has been down and my daughter's computer is having major problems

so I haven't been able to participate and am way behind on mail. Physically

I've had a lot of problems this year that seem to have no answers. My labs

have been all over the place (high CPK, WBC and up and down liver and kidney

enzymes as well as anemia) and my doctors are stumped and are giving up on me.

They give me this look of pity, shake their heads and send me home with no

suggestions. Not good enough for me. I'm not giving up. I do have liver and

kidney issues but we do not know the extent of them. I was supposed to have

an exploratory procedure and got all the way into the OR but the

anesthesiologist and gastro specialist refused to put me under after talking to

my

neuro. They say I'm too medically fragile for diagnostic procedures and that I

will just have to live with the symptoms. I'm not able to take most

medications

whether due to allergies or doctors' orders so I'm pretty much learning to

tolerate the symptoms cold turkey. I do cheat and pop a Motrin when the pain

gets too bad (shame on me lol). My white blood count continues to go up and

down with no source of infection and that has me worried. Its very

frustrating. Everyone feels that I have something in addition to the mito. My

neuro

is leaning towards Schleroderma. I'm going to travel to Columbia

Presbyterian at the end of October so maybe I'll get some answers there. I'm

also

having problems with my calve muscles. I failed my PT evaluation at my last

clinic appointment and am having lots of calf pain after walking. I'm trying

to

ignore it but wow am I paying for my trip to Busch Gardens on Saturday. I am

trying live my life as normally as possible and I know I overdue it

sometimes but I want to enjoy life and do my favorite things as long as I can

before

this lousy disease takes its toll. I know that I'm a lot better off than

many others and am very thankful for that. My daughter is doing well in

school but has been sick a lot this year. She is seeing a great peds neuro

here in Sarasota who trained at Columbia under Dr. DiMauro. I hope everyone is

doing well. I'll try to participate more from now on. Thanks again for

thinking of me. , tell Christie hello for me. I think of you guys every

time I walk by my yarn octopus that she made for me.

I am sorry to hear that you are having so many problems. You might

want to consider a scooter or wheelchair to see if the other problems

improve when you aren't stressing your body so much. I have found that

reducing the stress of working has helped, but now have to learn how

to pace myself around the house as I am walking more which is good but

causing some problems.

I'm glad is doing well.
