Guest guest
We've been doing the gluten free diet since Monday and these last few days have been horrible with .. I wonder if this might be due to the diet working (ie withdrawl?) or just an unfortunate happenstance? Thursday through today he's been stimming A LOT more than normal, yesterday and today he had complete meltdowns at public gatherings from being in sensory overload. For example, yesterday we took the kids to a friend of mine's daughter's birthday party at Mcs.. I was really careful to keep Josh away from the center of the chaos so that he wouldn't get upset like at his own birthday party a couple weeks ago.. and he did really well through the meal (I took some GFCF nuggets that I made for him and he loved them, wish I had brought more than 4.. LOL) When it came time for the presents, I took him a little closer so that I could see what was going on (I was holding him).. That did it.. He started screeching, hitting me, kicking and arching his back.. I backed off again and took him to a quieter (haha) corner of the room and spoke to him to calm him, which worked for a minute or so.. When I turned around and took a couple steps closer to the group, not as close as we had been, but out of the corner, He arched his back again and then, almost like a light switch was flipped, he tuned everyone and everything out. He would not respond to his name, his eyes kinda fixed on a point outside the room and that is how he remained for several minutes.. Tonight was very similar.. And on both nights I'm sorry to say that I lost it..I had tears streaming as we left.. How foolish I felt, but I was just so sad and overwhelmed... It's been a very tough week. Anyone have something similar when their child started this diet? Any tips on how to keep my sanity until it passes?? LOL?!? TIA..
