Flowers. I used to get flowers and press them up against the cooked egg

(I

think I cooked the egg first, it's been several years). Then wrap in

onion

skins (the outer part), a piece of cotton cloth and tie with string

(really

tie it all over good). Fill a pan with cold water and about a tablespoon

of

vinegar. Bring to a boil, and let simmer or sit in pan off heat for about

15 min. The wild flowers work best, but I've used flowers from floral

shops

(actually I asked for their old ones) and even if the color doesn't come

out strong, it still leaves the shape of the flower. The onion skin gives

a

light brown (mottled somewhat) around the flowers. They're really quite

pretty.

Here's a site I found with some ideas. And to that I would add red

cabbage

, I've not used it for this, but it does react with base and acid as blue

,

purple or pink. Just cut up the cabbage and cover with water, bring to a

boil. If I remember right, this turns pink in acid. And you might have

to

set it with

vinegar.
