Guest guest
Yes, I know of Dr. Engel by reputation. Some of my doctors have consulted him and once they considered sending me up to see him. I was told he is a world-class physician, very well known in the neuromuscular world, and he has certainly published a lot. I have copies of some of his papers. He has done work on carnitine deficiency, but I have no idea if he's interested in OXPHOS or how much knowledge or clinical experience he has in this area. He's been at Mayo for many years. It was mid-80s when my doctors were talking about sending me to see him, not for diagnosis (which I had) but for input and guidance. I'm not sure about his clinical style. Seems like I can recall hearing from other patients that he can be intimidating in person, but I'm not certain now. It's been too many years. The timing of your question is interesting......another patient in our CPT support group needs a doctor at Mayo and I am working my sources at present, trying to find out who at Mayo will fill the gap for Dr. Whiteman. Dr. Vockley also left Mayo a couple of years ago and he used to see CPT patients and others with disorders of fat metabolism. Will let you know if I can get a name from my sources.
