Guest guest
Dear Cathy, my Mother is now in the hospital. She has dementia and now a dry cough, congestive heart failure and fluid retional, she is 86 years old. They are giving her antibiotics and fluids. I don't think she will last much longer. I'm having a problem thinking is this a good thing or a bad thing. She's wanted to die for the last five years.Sometimes enough is enough for us anyway. I wish you well for your Dad and hope your time together is precious....Love.. Sue Marth

Guest guest
Sue, I know exactly how you feel. I watched my mom suffer for so long and by the time she passed away, we didn't know if she knew anything or not. She couldn't hear and scarely see and couldn't talk very well. So, I began to wonder if death couldn't be beautiful. It was great to know she wasn't suffering anymore. However, let me tell you we do miss them. And sometimes it gets very difficult. Guess we just are never really ready or prepared to give them up. Not when the are as wonderful as my mom. So, if you ever need to vent, just let me know. I definitely understand. You and your mom are in my prayers. Love and God Bless, Jo Re: Dr. >Dear Cathy, my Mother is now in the hospital. Guest guest
Hi, all. I had communication with two other families who initially brought their babies to Dr. and did NOT have good experiences with him in terms of getting the clubfoot corrected. Anybody else have any experience with this doctor? We will be getting the 9th cast tomorrow and are scheduled for 3 more. And then perhaps a tonotomy if the tendon isn't soft enough. I had put a lot of confidence in this doctor, but now I'm not so sure. I have also posted on the the other clubfoot board. Thank you. Guest guest
, 12 casts and possible tenotomy very likely means he's not using Ponseti manipulations (correctly) because it only takes 3-7 with 9 being the most for the very, very difficult feet. This includes the tenotomy cast. Most children are corrected with 5 or 6 casts if done properly. Can't say anything about this Dr. personally because I have no idea... but if others had problems with him, and he hasn't been able to get your child's foot corrected in 3-7 casts it does send up a big red flag. What's his plan after the casting anyway? Perhaps he's changed to Ponseti Method recently and still in the learning process? Are these casts long leg to the groin plasters or some other kind of cast? Guest guest
Sounds like he's batting a big fat zero to me. I'd start looking elsewhere for care while you still have a chance. s. Guest guest
Our find Dr. has modified the method (if he ever knew it to begin with). This is not good, not good at all. The wheel has been invented and it works very well, reinventing it will be disastrous. Please please consider moving to a qualified doctor while you have time to do so, time is ticking! - even if it means traveling then travel because your window of opportunity is shutting on your child's toes. Most of us here travel great distances to see the Right Doctor. We'll help you figure it out. If we know where you live we can start to point you towards the right place and how to get there. You really need to get away from Dr. . I cannot stress this enough, and not on theory - based on my actual experience. ee, mother of two bcf boys: - age 6 years NON Ponseti Method Club Foot Disaster Everett - age 16 months Dr. Ponseti Success Story Re: Dr. These are toe to groin casts. We HAVE seen improvement. The foot is now straight and no longer has a prominent arch. If he were standing, I guess he would be on his tip-toes. So, now Dr. is manipulating the foot to move upwards so that if he were standing, he would stand on his sole and not on his tip-toes. After the casting, his plan was for my baby to wear the DBB until he starts crawling, for 21/7 and then just at night while he sleeps. I didn't know that we were supposed to have a fully corrected foot in so few casts... My husband and I are at a loss as to what we should do... > > > >Hi, all. > > > >I had communication with two other families who initially brought > >their babies to Dr. and did NOT have good experiences with him > >in terms of getting the clubfoot corrected. Guest guest
Hi , It's . After our coversation I have been thinking you really should go to the guys in the city. You are so close so travel is not an issue. I have heard really good things about Dr. Lehman and Dr. Scher. And as you know from my personal experience I have not had a positive experience with Dr. . It can't hurt to go and get a second opinion from them. Like I said Tommy was an atypical case but now that I think about it Dr. should have admitted he was having a problem and 15 casts was way too many. I just foresee problems with the shoes if his foot is not at 70 degrees outward. You say it is straight now and he his working on the flexion but he still has a long way to go to get to the 70 degrees outward rotation. I would hate for you to put your son in the shoes if he if not ready. So many parents here have gone through the nightmare of that with blisters and miserable babies in pain. Please call the CERTIFIED Ponseti docs in the city and get a second opinion. I know in my heart if we had stayed with Dr. Tommy would have ended up having surgery. Your son is stll so young you have time. I waited 5 months before switching. > > > > > > > > > >Hi, all. > > > > > > > >I had communication with two other families who initially brought > > > >their babies to Dr. and did NOT have good experiences with > > him > > > >in terms of getting the clubfoot corrected. Guest guest
Hi, . Thank you so much for all your help. Yes, we will look into meeting with Dr. Lehman or Scher. I just posted pics of in the Albums section. I mean, his foot DOES look better, but what do I know? I have been putting my trust into the chief of pediatrics orthopedics-- I never even thought that he wouldn't be doing the method correctly. Ugh. I feel terrible that little may have been going through these casts for naught... > > > > > > > > > > > > >Hi, all. > > > > > > > > > >I had communication with two other families who initially > brought > > > > >their babies to Dr. and did NOT have good experiences > with > > > him > > > > >in terms of getting the clubfoot corrected. Guest guest
, Honey don't waste time beating yourself up over your ignorance. Just set your sights ahead and let the future be informed and productive. You know, don't cry over spilled milk because you can't exactly unspill it. But in the case of club feet, there is time to back up and re-do for better results for a while there. Then it does become too late. Don't let it become too late. I'm sure the foot does *look better* than it did at birth. But looking better doesn't exactly mean it is better, kwim? See I went through six months of casting on my first son due to my ignorance and putting blind faith in the doctor who was treating him. I did not know there was any other way. He suffered for 6 months of casting, 18 months of AFO braces, physical therapy then when he turned 2 I found Dr. Ponseti. At that point my son still could not walk, he only hobbled on his crooked feet and was in pain every day. Dr. Ponseti could not completely fix him as he (my son) was too old by then but Ponseti did some help and i am eternally gratful for that. This doesn't have to be a life-time affliction for your child - just a temporary inconvienience leading in to a life time of freedom. Correction is temporary - it only lasts a fraction of his life compared to bad feet hurting for a lifetime. It's a pain in the butt driving to doctors, starting over from ground zero, but worth it, honestly. I have two sons, both with bilateral club feet. I have gone both routes. The difference in my boys' feet is night and day! I just really wanted to say, don't beat yourself up. You did the best you could with what you had. Now you have more, (information) so you can do more We're here with you and for you. God Bless, shawnee Re: Dr. Hi, . Thank you so much for all your help.
