hi,

i'm debbie codd, i have a son, ellis who is 8. over the past two years ellis

has been on

growth hormone. though he was tested with a " normal " level of GH, the GH shots

helped him " catch up " a bit. (he was born 1lb. 14oz., and only 13 " long.) this

past

year has been plagued with peeing in his pants (without his knowledge) and toe

walking. i'd remembered someone telling me to have him checked out if the toe

walking became constant, so we went to an orthopedic doc in concord, nh. he

found

a slight curve to ellis' spine. i mentioned the peeing to him and he said that

with the

toe walking, there could be something going on and that we need a MRI. the MRI

indicated that his spinal cord is abnormally low and is called a " tethered

cord " . the

pediatric neurosurgeon, at Dartmoth-Hitchcock hosp. in lebenon, nh, told us

that he

has to have his spinal cord operated on. the " string " which holds the cord in

place, is

so tight, it's pulling his spine down into the lumbar region. if untreated his

feet will

continue to deform, scoliosis will set in and the bladder problems will become

worse,

and be irreversable. it also causes numbness in the lower extremities, which

he's told

us he has! i wanted to write to 1. let people know about this and to add it to

your list

of things to look out for, and 2. has anyone run into a tethered cord or some of

the

symptoms in your rss child?

thanks,

debbie
