How old was Austin when he had AIT? Did you have to " practice " to get used to

the earphones? Any experiences you share will be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Cherri,

Austin was 4.1 when he had his first round of Auditory Integration Therapy

(AIT). At the time, I was very concerned that he wouldn't sit still for it.

The audiologist told me that she thinks that the kids sit still for it

because they know that it is helping them. Austin had never worn head

phones prior to this. The big draw back to AIT is that he will never be

able to listen to music with headphones. I am told it could damage his

hearing again.

I am putting him through a second round of AIT now. His last remaining

sympton is that we have to repeat ourselves to him. He'll ask us to 'say it

again.' The doctor told me he has an auditory processing concern. I am

hoping that this second round will help Austin with this. We are seeing

improvements already.

I am convinced that all of the ear infections and the fluid build up damaged

his hearing. When Austin was 18 months old, he had tubes put in. At the

exam prior to putting the tubes in, the ENT specialist told me he had no

hearing at all because of the fluid. We had been in to the doctors on a

regular basis for about a year prior to that. When there wasn't an

infection, there was fluid. I believe this contributed to Austin's language

delay.

That on top of the gluten and casein opiate affect made my baby loose more

than 4 years of precious developmental time.
