Guest guest
Paige, I'll let someone else handle the calorie question. I know our kids need more than what other kids do, just like they seem to need more growth hormone... Last summer at convention the Speech therapist who was a feeding specialist said she HATES sippy cups. She prefers kids move to just an open cup or a straw. I have a friend in Delaware, and her kids' (premie twins) speech therapist told her the same thing. Maybe you can check in your area about a speech/feeding therapist referral. I don't think it is ever too early to get the feeding people involved. Beth H. > Hey everyone I have 2 questions. > > 1. Guest guest
1. Straws are better, according to the feeding therapists that have spoken at the convention. Bottles are VERY difficult to wean a child from, and the longer past 12 months of age that you use a bottle, the more of a battle you will have on your hands. I have also heard, like Beth, that sippy cups are a disaster. One brand makes a straw cup that can also have the straw lock down. 2. Calories. Well, there is no " right " answer for an RSS/SGA child on this question. What I have always heard Dr. H say is " more than what your child is getting right now. " HA! I remember hearing once that if your child's weight is flat, not gaining at all but NOT falling in weight, you probably need to increase anywhere between 10- 20%. But if the weight is falling and not level, the increase would be more like 25-35%. Salem > Hey everyone I have 2 questions. > > 1. Guest guest
Weaning off the bottle I guess would also mean weaning off any nighttime feeds. For RSS kids without tube, what age is considered safe to let them sleep through the night without feeding? Sabina -- In RSS-Support , " magicrss " wrote: > 1.
