Guest guest
We are leaving for Florida in the next few days, and in case no one's been watching, *another* tropical storm soon-to-be hurricane has formed and is entering the Caribbean Sea. So we're a bit concerned we'll be spending at least some of our vacation at a shelter. My FIL, who uses BiPap and a scooter due to post-polio syndrome, is on a list to go to a " medical needs " shelter. My understanding of " regular " shelters for hurricanes is that there is often not room to sit down, let alone lie down (please correct me if I'm wrong, I've not been to one). He lives 2 hours from where we'll vacation, but I don't know if they let " guests " stay, especially if I'm the only one of the five in our family with special needs. I am not severely disabled, but I would need to sit down, lie down, or get access to drinking water easily (and be cool, LOL), depending upon my condition. Does anyone know of how to check out shelters when one is a vacationer? Or is it as simple as call the town hall where you're staying (or hospital?) to find out where to go? Would they ask for medical records to prove that I have a medical condition? Thanks, RH
