Guest guest
I am one of the lucky few that easily reached my goal weight following surgery. I have had to work VERY hard to maintain my weight though...I have maintained about a 5 pound range, 147 - 152 for the 9 months or so before I became pregnant. However, I have to eat at every possible moment, and my outlook on food is so different from what it used to be. I think the gastric-bypass dumping syndrome has caused me to hate sweets and fatty foods....I used to love chocolate, but now it makes me cringe. I get 'tired' of the same foods, and I constantly have to make new things, just so I'll be tempted to want to eat more. I force myself to eat. I try to alternate between high protein and high carb meals.....high protein so that I get that since it's hard to absorb, and then high carb, because I absorb more of those calories. Everything I had read said that I would be able to gain in pregnancy. I just don't like the feeling that food gives me....too full feeling so easily. But I don't think my pouch is too small, because every once in a while I'll be able to eat a ton with no discomfort. I am addicted to turkey subs from Subway, and I can eat a footlong (6 " , followed by the other 6 " about an hour later.) So I think that the pouch has stretched to an ample size.. So I guess it's more psychological for me than anything else. Well, I have not been sick at all. I try to eat as much as possible, but I appear to have lost 3 or more pounds over the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy. I know it's common to lose in the first trimester for those who have been sick...but I have not. (This doesn't concern me, because I never had morning sickness with my pregnancies with my 2 daughters pre-WLS.) I have been eating so much...and it is so frustrating, because I'm losing instead of gaining. Not that I want to gain a lot, but I definitely don't need to be losing. I'm 5'11 " , and I weigh around 150...and I don't want to be any thinner. (I couldn't imagine ever saying this before WLS.) I am about 2 years post-surgery, btw. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone else has had a problem gaining weight. I don't know if it's a problem yet or not, but I've never seen any other posts about not being able to gain when pregnant post surgery. Thanks, le
Guest guest
Hi le I am having the same problem. I am 12 weeks not morning sickness, but losing weight (5 or 6 punds). My OB says she is not worried at this point because the baby doesn’t need as much right now but she would like to see me gain at least 15 pounds. She says we’ll monitor the baby’s growth through ultrasound and such. Good luck! Ponselle
