Guest guest
Salem here, first I have to apologize as I have not been on line in I have no idea how long. Coaching softball and way too many things happening simultaneously. Please note that the 2004 MAGIC Convention Registration brochure is now uploaded on the magicfoundation.org website. I did notice that on two pages, not all the info on the " grid " was showing for me, but that will get fixed soon. Everyone on MAGIC's mailing list will be mailed a hard copy of the registration info. Otherwise, you can email them at mary@... or call them tollfree 800-3MAGIC3. This summer we do expect more than the 120 families (450 people) we had last year, which was JUST RSS/SGA families (not counting another 450 from other divisions!!!). You can read all about the various presentation topics on line, so I won't go into total detail here. But in general -- Diagnosing RSS and how it differs from SGA, Latest in RSS study results, Insulin Resistance and other risks for RSS/SGA kids, Gut Dysmotility and what are the latest research findings on our kids, a panel of RSS adults with a discussion on practical adaptations that are essential for living as a short statured adult, the ADD child, feeding therapy and how to help your child eat and gain weight (3 hours!!!), and a seminar on " family matters " -- marriage, siblings, grandparents, etc. when you have a chronically ill child. Then there is our RSS/SGA pool party. The fun dinners at night. And thanks to a donation on behalf of , we have a TEEN ROOM!!!! We have rented a foosball table and a ping pong table and this is a room for 12 and up. And lastly, being able to have a 20-30 minute consultation with Dr. Madeleine Harbison, at no charge. (30 minutes for first timers). We do NOT book any visits with Dr. H until you have already registered for the convention, and then have returned a questionnaire that we send you. So please, it doesn't help to email me and say " Save me a Dr. H spot " ..... Last year we were able to book all but 3 families who wanted to see her ... but those 3 families registered during the last week. If you are coming, the best Dr. H spots are all day Wednesday and on Thursday morning and early afternoon. But this means you have to fly in early to the convention. Well worth it if you are a first- time family and wanting a chance for your child to be evaluated by this doctor..... And lastly, we hope to have additional scholarship funds thanks to some major fundraising by several RSS families. PLUS we can help you raise your own funds. So to apply, I need you to mail your federal tax return (either this year or last year) to me. Email me privately for my mailing address. These scholarships cover hotel for 3 nights and registration fees. My belief is that for most families, you should be able to fundraise your own monies to at least cover your transportation. I just did a garage sale for our division, with one week's notice, did it for only 3 hours on a Saturday morning, spent a total of 5 hours + that morning, and raised $518. YOU CAN DO IT TOO!!!! And we can help you do it. Just ask me!! These funds will be earmarked by MAGIC to cover your own convention expenses!!!! Any donation to MAGIC in your name is tax deductible to your donor!!! Ask your family and friends! We have brochures with photos and they have tear off donation forms. Ask me more!
