Guest guest
Hi Sunny :-) It is nice of you to remember me. I am only sorry that I wasn't able to keep up with the list through all that time. Actually when I think back to that time, I am amazed that I have not had to go to a feeding tube yet. A visit to the GI specialist at that time, that was about all he was offering as a suggestion. I was just too stubborn to accept it and lucky enough that when I kept trying, it eventually allowed me to get back to some form of eating. It encourages me when I am low to remember how I just didn't think I would make it back to any level of functioning that I would find bearable, but I did at least for now. Since you have mild GI difficulties Sunny, could I suggest...? I often wish I knew then what I know now. [g] I suspect that " preserving " digestive function is more possible when you understand you have mito and how that all works. I didn't way back when my difficulties were mild. I think I would try to plan my meals carefully, getting as much nutrition as I could [which I did], I would try to stretch the time between meals as much as I could without bringing on symptoms [if you get low blood sugar this makes it a little harder], I would make smaller servings. I find my stomach can handle more of a variety of foods, if I introduce them in very small amts and gradually increase to a still below average size portion. I try to plan " easy to digest " meals following more challenging to digest meals. Easy to digest to me is anything that is blended into liquid form, in half serving sizes. i.e., Yogurt/fruit/ground nuts/protein powder. If you can plan a day a week as a day to let your digestive tract rest, this can also be very helpful. I also do freshly juiced green drinks to continue to get veggies which are harder for me to digest. I used to be able to do a whole day of nothing but juices, but those days are long gone. It is easy to digest, but irritates my stomach lining unless I take it with other foods now. I guess I operate on the personal conclusion, that mito patients need to pace and rest when they have overdone it. The Digestive System is one system that it is hard to rest since we always have to eat. It is possible to an extent to rest it and entirely possible to pace. I just try to apply that principle to the extent it can be applied. Thanks again Sunny...have a nice weekend :-) Adam > > > > HI, Adam > > I remember your posts from a while back, at a time when you were > having severe difficulties, and when you did not post for a long while > I was concerned.
