Guest guest
Yolande, I'm so glad you were able to get the Dobbs bar and that it is helping Toby to be more comfortable. I'm no doctor but I'm not sure if it is out of the norm that he is not bearing weight at 7 months. I know a lot of babies do, but my daughter (without clubfoot) didn't really start doing this until 9 months. If the doctors are talking surgery though, I would be considering other options, possibly a 2nd opinion, even if it means traveling. I firmly believe that the percentage of our clubfoot babies who really " need " surgery is very, very small and that you should do whatever you can to avoid it. Please keep us posted on Toby's progress! He has been in the FAB with Markel boots for 6 weeks now since are brief daliance with AFOs. I now have a dobbs bar and it is great - the boots stay on and he is more comfortable (even sleeping through the night!). His feet look good and we easily have the 70 degrees rotation and 15 degrees dorsiflexion. However, he still has a major problem with supination - when you try to stand him (which he does not do well - his knees still buckle) he puts the weight on the outside edge of his feet. They mentioned that he may need surgery if this does not improve in the next couple of months. He is a big baby which contributes to him not being able to put wieght on his legs (he was 23lbs and 29.5 inches at six months (6 weeks ago and so is bigger now). Although he sits up there is no sign of crawling. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anything I could be doing to help things along. I really don't want him to have surgery, and especially not in Kenya so surgery would involve a trip to Europe or to the US. Thanks Yolande
Guest guest
My has the supination also. Dr. P noticed this in pictures that I sent to him. He said that it is normally self correcting after the child starts walking and would only require surgery if it was still present after the age of 2. Hope that helps.
