Guest guest
Hi everyone... I was wondering how long you all kept your kids in the infant car seats? (you know, the ones that face backwards) I know that you are supposed to have an infant facing backwards until they are 12 months old because their spines et are not strong enough to support them in the event of an accident if they are facing forward. I also know that you are supposed to keep them in there until they are 20 lbs. If I do that, Xavier would be in that thing until he was five at the rate he's going. I wouldn't have any problem with it, since it's pretty convenient to be able to keep him in the car seat when we go places, especially since he can't really sit up without support, but the problem is that he is starting to try...kids in those kinds of car seats are babies who are not capable of sitting up, or even attempting it. Xavier is very strong for his size, and can pull himself up to a sitting position if he has something to grab onto. Even with the 5 point harness, he is able to sit up some, and even wiggle one of his shoulders/arm out. I'm concerned that he is going to get hurt this way. Also, since he is deaf, he absolutely hates facing backwards and not being able to see what is going on since he can't hear us. What do you guys do? Keep them in there, or put them in a regular car seat? I know that the convertible car seats are fine for babies too, as long as you keep them facing backward until they are one. I'm just kind of stuck..he's almost 15 months old, but he is the size of a 3 month old. Do I face him forward since he's old enough? His head is steady and he has been supporting it since he was about 3 months old. I don't know if the age/weight restriction is going to apply with him. The forward facing thing is for kids who are under 1, I don't think that the weight has anything to do with which way they face or what kind of car seat they are in. Okay, long and winded, thanks though! Jen Xavier 14months, 13lbs RSS (?) Emerald, 5, Non RSS Wyatt,4, Non RSS
