Guest guest
Hi Ann-Marie, Yes, I live in MA. At this point, Medicaid sometimes covers CoQ10 and the rest of the cocktail and sometimes it doesn't. My doctor can't see any rhyme or reason to the discrepancies in their decisions. Yes, a group including the Thorells filed a bill with the state legislature to cover treatment for mito. According to my state legislator, this bill was killed by the state's new health care bill. You might have read about the state bill since it hit the national papers as a model for all states to increase health care coverage (though some of us aren't so sure it's a great bill--but I'll spare you the non-mito details and politics). Regarding mito, unfortunately the new state bill included a stipulation that no other new health care bills could be passed for the next 3 years or so. So my understanding is that we can't go through with the mito health care bill at this time. Sigh :-(, Shayna > p.s. I'm now trying to get Medicaid to pay for the CoQ10. Guest guest
The question of whether Medicaid, the new Medicare prescription program or other insurance plans might or should cover prescribed supplements for conditions like Mito is an interesting one. I wonder if an organization like MDA has looked into this or has any knowledge about it, since many people with the diseases they cover are probably taking prescribed supplements and live in different states with different Medicaid programs. I would think that this question has come up many times before. Randall CoQ10/Medicaid / Shayna Shayna, What state do you live in? I know that in some states Medicaid does pay for supplements including CoQ10. I know that there were some people in Massachusetts that were working on getting MA. Medicaid to pay for the CoQ10. Although I am not sure if they succeeded or not. Does anyone who lives in MA. know if their Medicaid program pays for CoQ10? I believe it was Donna and Rod Thorell from MA. that were working on this proposal. Hey Donna are you out there? Can you give us some information on this? I would think that if you have a diagnosis that uses CoQ10 for a treatment that Medicaid would pay for it. But I doubt they would pay for the Tishcon/Epic brand. Most likely only OTC (over the counter) type. Good Luck and let us know how you make out!! Hugs, Ann-Marie Shayna wrote: p.s. I'm now trying to get Medicaid to pay for the CoQ10.
