Hello! I'm new to the group. Actually, I'm having my surgery next

month, but I am really out to learn all that I can, and your group

has been really great! Pregnancy after WLS is one of my biggest

concerns, getting healthy and staying that way so we can have a

healthy baby. But since I really do want to wait the 1-2 years after

the WLS before getting pregnant, I thought I'd go to you, the

experts about all this, about the contraception issue.

I keep getting such conflicting info about this. My surgeon says

that oral BC pills are fine, since there is no perceptible

malabsorption with the RNY, as so little of the intestine is

bypassed. But then I see online that some people say it's never a

reliable option afterward, because you just never know how you'll

actually do that day in real life. You might dump or get sick that

day, and who knows how much of your BC pill was absorbed?

Ugh, what to do? Injections? Implants? Barrier methods are so blah.

A diaphragm won't work since there will be lots of weight loss, and

I have absolutely NO interest in condoms---we got married so we'd

never have to use them again! ;) I think I'll end up doing the BC

pills and FAM (fertility awareness method, which I've done before

effectively---like in the Weschler book, NOT the " rhythm method " ).

Any advice? :)

Thanks,

Lindsey
