Question about calorie intake and pregnancy

I have been reading alot of info and to be honest I am totally

confused and well worried about gaining weight. I am starting week

8 and have only gained 1 - 1.5 lbs and honestly it had been up and

down every day so it probably is water nothing to do with pregnancy.

MY FEAR - before my surgery the biggest part of my weight gain came

with the birth of my son 10 years ago, I ballooned up about 90lbs, I

got so huge and it was after that I had all the weight problems. I

had the surgery 1/2/03 and lost 106 lbs down to 138 - I am happy

here. I am trying very hard to do what is best for the baby and at

the same time not blimp out. I have read everything and the info is

confusing or conflicting. Does anyone have any good info or web

site for determining how many calories (as a individual) we need

during pregnancy. I currently am carrying around a calorie counter

calculator to keep me from over doing it any one day. But the way I

figured it from one web site - I need 1450 calories a day to

maintain my current weight, and then I add 300 a day for the babys

needs. That seems like very little around 1750.

Then I look at all the foods they want you to get in from the

various food groups and I can't seem to get them all in without

going over that calorie range. Not to mention alot of times I can't

get it down.

Any suggestions for more reading or websites that might help me

decide where I stand. I am so scared of gaining the weight back.

The Pregnancy Book says you shouldn't gain more then 10 lbs before

the halfway mark, other info I have seen says no or very little in

the first trimester and I am sure the doctor will have his opinion

when I see him. So I am asking other mothers - What do you think?

Thanks for any info.
